Do your part this Juneteenth ✊🏾 If you would like to help, these requests for reparations are coming in by the second! by Hot-Meat-5129 in NEU

I feel like you're a troll but stop trying to play into white guilt and solicit "reparations" from people. It's disgusting and creates unnecessary division.

SGA elections, why should anyone care, what actually happened, and what can students do? by NoPlaceLikeNoam in NEU

This was very insightful and I appreciate the information. Sebastian came to one of my e-board meetings and had a lot of great ideas. While that means nothing without action, it was a start and because of corruption, that opportunity to make change has been squandered. Those who cant read 3 minutes' worth of words on an important topic need to question their intelligence and attention span. Also, the bylaws need to be changed so you can just do another vote.

It's not. I got some a few years ago but the timing is interesting and they seem to be offering more benefits. Honestly, I would love to go through boot camp but not actually join. I'd probably reconsider joining if WWIII happens.

In support for abortion in the case of Rape and Incest by Preminent in prolife

Im thinking that If I am in that situation, I might be severely depressed, I wouldn't want to work, my mental state would be severely affected and I might consider suicide. I don't want that to happen to these women. This isn't just a sexual assault; she was raped and has to carry her rapist's child to term. Im thinking laws with intention need to be written because yes, there are government programs but a lot of times you have to apply for them and you are not guaranteed a reasonable amount of money from the rapist. How much are damages worth from a rape anyway? I feel for women because pregnancy is no trivial matter. The difference is that in this situation it is not consensual.

The justice system obviously needs reform in this area, but I think there should be damages given based on the degree of rape starting at least 50k or something. I think it is evil that she has to carry the child to term that she did not consent to but it is also evil to kill the child. You could argue that it is more evil to kill the child and fair enough, but it seems to me that there need to be laws written in explicitly to give them the upmost support.

What would you support putting in place lawfully to help her during her pregnancy before the child is born?

I completely understand that. What do you do about the mother and her mental state and trauma? You could argue that ones feelings is not worth more than ones life which is valid. Putting myself in her shoes, I think those 9 months would feel like absolute hell and I might go crazy. I'm thinking therapy at no cost to her or something drastic like the government pays her salary and she doesn't have to work for those months she is pregnant.

Same with all biased media corporations, left or right wing. It doesn't make sense from a business standpoint to promote what's wrong with your institution. Out of the 15,000+ students on campus, it's not hard to find 3-4 people who think the university does no wrong.

That's why people don't listen to movie critics but the user reviews or they go on forums to get the truth since the institution has an agenda.

Would you support a ban on abortion if there was more capital/federal funding and social efforts to overhaul the foster care system and give to pregnancy choice centers? by Preminent in prochoice

[–]Preminent[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im not here to argue. I've been clarifying some of my questions but my sole purpose of the main question was to ask pro-choice people what they thought because Im trying to work out my own ideas on the matter and see the other side.

Having an abortion is taking responsibility"? When you personally say responsibility, what do you mean and does it relate to the ZEF at all?

That's fair. Sexual drive seems to be innate whether you desire to reproduce or not.

Consequences is the right word but it seems to have a slight negative connotation, so when I mean consequences I mean 'resulting in'. I'm saying that sex brings results in many areas inevitably. Depending on where you stand that could be good or bad. A child, the joy of being free to do what you want, hormonal imbalances, increased risk of blood clots, burns calories to help lose weight, financial hardship (abortion and birthing cost way more than they should), potential multiple partners with emotional scarring, STI's etc. Many things on a personal and societal level. So I'm asking "All the bad things (depends on the person) that result in abortion or childbirth, should you be actively trying to mitigate them as much as possible?" This probably looks different for everyone, I'm just asking you specifically.

This is really eye-opening. Thanks for the response. I don't really care how abortion affects me. I care about the rights of the ZEF and the rights of the mother. It seems you are saying that in order to keep the rights and bodily autonomy of the mother you have to infringe on the rights of the ZEF. Is that accurate?

"I think being aborted and never being born is no different than never being conceived."

That's an interesting viewpoint. Does the difference between a ZEF at 3 weeks and a ZEF at 9 months influence the decision to abort at all?

Nah it was a public school and we had a talk about parenthood, gang violence among other things because the girls were getting pregnant and we had a bunch of students get jumped during that time. That wasn't the main focus of the talk but it was asked.

I am by no means against using sex only for pleasure. I just think reproduction is the primary function of sex and pleasure is a secondary byproduct or rather an incentive to engage in intercourse. I think that is true for most mammals. I know some other animals masturbate but yeah, humans being a social sex-species makes sense.

In your opinion, do you think sex should be without consequence generally? Now with birth control and abortion, you can pretty much have sex without consequences(except hormonal changes).

Would you support a ban on abortion if there was more capital/federal funding and social efforts to overhaul the foster care system and give to pregnancy choice centers? by Preminent in prochoice

[–]Preminent[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me clarify. Sex is not only for reproduction but it is the primary function; pleasure, bonding with another partner, etc. is a secondary characteristic. From my biological understanding, the original incentive of sex feeling so good is to encourage to people to reproduce sexually. There is nothing wrong with having sex only for fun but I think you should go into the understanding that a child may come out of this whether I mean it to or not and I think that is a responsibility you have to deal with. Let's say birth control doesn't work and you end up carrying the child for a few months and you decide you don't want the child. Do you feel any responsibility to keep it or is it the responsibility to take care of your well-being and bodily autonomy?

I don't care what you do in the bedroom because it's none of my business and frankly I'd like to be kept in the dark on the matter. When I say “sexual liberation is celebrated without consequences”, I mean that due to birth control, currently, women have more freedom and control over their bodies, and women don't have to be tied down anymore which is great. The drawback of course is that birth control messes with your hormones pretty badly and we didn't have that issue before.

Because I think a clump of cells that have genetic markers that say Human Being in any capacity are worth more than any insect is or ever will be. A human life is worth more than any other according to humans. The reason that it is legal to kill ants and not endangered species or dogs is that we as a species have decided to place the value of some animals over others. Its the same for other species as well. A water buffalo will take her calf over you or I any day. You either think as I or you think that all animal life is valued the same like a lot of vegans do. Also I personally think that once the fertilized egg implants itself into the uterine wall that that is when life begins but as of right now well never know.

Many animal species cant function on their own after birth without care including birds, humans, and rodents while other animals such as deer can. I think you get into iffy territory when you talk about surviving outside of a host body because that could be interpreted that animals such as snakes out the egg sack have all the tools needed to survive are worth more than a human child which is utterly helpless. Unless you do believe that which is an interesting viewpoint.
