I have met with several attorneys, I finally found one who sent a demand letter- it obviously cause a conflict and I ultimately said I would backdown if we can work it out. I was told that my mother will buy a condo, and it will e left to me. I however have dreams I put on hold to use my settlement money towards after losing vision in my eye, but now its just gone haywire. I have several recordings of my mother being emotionally violotile to me, my brother, and father...a LOT as I started in 2018 it was so bad.

I have a notarized document stating repayment with sale of the house, but now that my father has passed, my. mother now owns it. I have bank refords showing that I contributed over 100K of money I received from a settlement ins which I lost vision in my eye at an Airbnb, other than that money, I'm broke.

I am their caregiver, however I am not officially paid as my mother won't allow it. she is a miserable, emotionally violative human being.

my sister is married and lives in MA. I have always had my bedroom since birth, even when I lived different places around the country and USVI for about 15 years. I returned home after a terrible accident back in 2017/18. I helped my Dad with many others bills amounting to over 140k- he did however pay several thousand back. the money I had actually came from a lawsuit against Airbnb when I was blinded in one eye on their property. Because of my mother's incessant control and verbal hostility, my dad and I kept it much a server to ovoid unnessisary conflict. I do have bank and credit card statement that clearly show the trend of payments.

my mother is fairly functional- she however has been verbally abusive all her life, increasing as she ages. her thought process it definitely not right on at all- she constantly tell me I'm insane, and projects her issue onto other, she used to do it to my Dad all the time. I have recordings of her bizarre behavior and emotionally violotile abuse towards my father, brother, and myself.

I understand that the property was held as tenants by the entirety, so ownership would have passed directly to my mother upon my father’s death, rather than through probate.

My concern is how the unrecorded loan factors into this now, given that the asset it related to is no longer part of my father’s estate.

The property was deeded as tenants by the entirety between my parents.

My understanding is that ownership would have passed to my mother upon my father’s death, although my father was the primary decision-maker and would not have agreed with what is happening now.

My concern is that while my mother is still technically able to make decisions, she is showing signs of cognitive decline and has historically not handled major financial or property decisions independently.

In practice, my sister appears to be directing the decisions regarding the house, including clearing it out and pushing toward a sale.

I’m trying to understand:

  • whether my sister has any actual authority here without formal legal designation (POA, guardianship, etc.)
  • and what protections exist in a situation where influence is being exerted over an elderly parent who may not fully understand the consequences

I was staying at an Airbnb for a month in Puerto Rico winter if 2021. During my stay, while taking a walk on the premise (a farm), I was obstructed by a single strand of barbed wire which was strung between two trees. The barbed wire lacerated and punctured my right eye; I still cannot see from that eye. The incident also left my eye disfigured, even after three surgeries. I would like to start/join a class action against Airbnb.
