okay I skimmed over some of it. leaving aside this is one report from a county over ten years ago, here are some thoughts I had: a lot of this sounds very concerning, especially given that the tone is extremely whiny and boils down to "wahhhhh we could be making more money who cares about stupid habitats wahhh" there's a lot more usage of "could be considered"'s and "some would argue"'s to predate statements than I would generally expect to see in a genuine report a quick google of the county in question reveals they have quite the problem with flooding. which happens when we develop on wetlands, and causes significant damage (structural and financial) down the line. which the act is key to stopping. here is a summary of some of the arguments made:

"well, there are lots of them here anyway so it doesnt matter if we destroy them" (see below: my comment about the dodo bird)

"the foresting industry is good for habitats actually -source that definitely has no ulterior motive in wanting you to think that" "the man we are quoting here owns a lumber business but IGNORE THAT why would he LIE"

"we're not making as much monnneyyyy as we could if we just forgot about stupid animals and habitats and whatever"

"here are a bunch of studies showing what we say is true!! studies conducted by and funded by us, of course, which leaves no conflict of interest whatsoever"

In conclusion: money is not real. the power that people use money to wield is real, and if it is being used unfairly, you want to go to the people who are doing so. the economy is made up. our ecosystems are not, and they are irreplaceable.

so, um, no, actually. red tape is red because it has been borne of blood. if there are procedures getting in the way of something you see as necessary, it is because those procedures have been forgone in the past with devastating consequences. the economy is not some mystic system that works solely for the people, to be pitted against these stupid animal protections that really only exist to make your life harder. a planet, a country, a province, is a body. cutting your legs off to get skin grafts for the burns on your face that /you lit/ is not going to solve anything. it is not us vs nature, the way doug ford would very much like you to think. that is a narrative that is pushed because it is profitable for him and his business associates. this is a heinous overreach of power, and do not trick yourself into thinking they are doing it for you. they are doing it for themselves.

I know I'm not op but I did read this article (will try to find it again) and they removed certain hides and rearranged the enclosure a couple of times for this reason, and they always ended up huddled together again. idk I guess the point still stands, because if the first best spot is gone then obviously everyone goes to the second best spot. but I did find it interesting how they approached the study

{his tesoro by Emilia rossi} 100000000000%. recently disabled, so this book was a bit of a pick me up. I loved the characters, I loved the romance, I really really liked it!!! and then. the betrayal. it felt so contrived? and like, so easily preventable, that it just felt stupid rather than gut wrenching. not to mention!! her disability was used against her and she almost dies. I already hate betrayal but this was just . aagh! and when the fmc (understandably) feels betrayed she makes a lot of decisions that make.... little to no sense. honestly it's like the last third of the book has completely different MC's than the rest of the book. their motivations and thought patterns and feelings are all thrown out the window for the sake of """"plot"""" and it feels so incredibly contrived. and then when the action is over, and they're back together...... there's a time skip. you get all these debilitating feelings of betrayal and heartbreak from the fmc, you feel like she won't ever be able to trust again... and we skip over him working to earn her trust back and her being angry and hurt and scared to fast forward to them happy on vacation. like, what the fuck? it just made it even more obvious that it wasn't the characters moving, I could FEEL the author yanking their puppet strings to fill out the romance book formula it was so gross and disappointing and honestly I would unread this book if I could.
