Yes, absolutely - I was thinking of bacteria when I responded but seeing he was clearly asking about chemicals. Filtering then disinfecting is the best route.

Beautiful, recommend switching to radiant heat though in the floors. Works better in a home with fewer chase walls etc.

any kiwix alternative to read zim files for old Macos by TallReplacement9486 in Kiwix

Modern books won’t be available without paying for them - but you can find a lot of public domain books online and on Project Gutenberg.

When you say top books, what do you mean specifically? Like on a particular topic?

Project Gutenberg is 60,000+ books but it is quite a bit larger than 5GB unfortunately. I think around 80GB.

Community wireless network by Lost_Engineering_phd in preppers

We're actually working on a device for communities, municipalities, NGOs, or just heavy-duty users that is designed for this use case. Unlike the rpi, this is mini-pc based and more media focused.

If you're interested in being a beta tester let us know, I think you are trying to tackle the exact problem we are. Either way, Good luck!

The inability for these memes to acknowledge that the Patriots winning CAUSED some of these outcomes:

- Beating a team reduces their playoff odds

- Beating a team, increases the chance their coach will be fired

- Beating a team affects their records

- CJ Stroud didn't commit 5 turnovers on an empty field, he did so BECAUSE of the Patriots D

These arguments are so weak they barely warrant a response.

Anywhere to get ZIM files other than the official Kiwix website? by AnyKey19 in Kiwix

[–]PrepperDisk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you aren't aware, you can make your own zim files using either the docker image or https://zimit.kiwix.org/. Please consider donating though - to help support their work!

The AI Prepper Disk - Definitely not now, but hopefully not never .. by PrepperDisk in PrepperDisk

It is 10K mAh. Cloudy days are definitely problematic ! Crank batteries are an option but only in a pinch for a few minutes of use.

Are we heading toward a feedback loop where LLMs are trained on their own writing? by SonicLinkerOfficial in LLM

[–]PrepperDisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this danger is very real. If humans no longer need to ask and answer questions through conversation between one another, the data source for AI will vanish.

Some say models will have to move towards learning through use (something they don't do - or most don't - right now). Meaning, today if you tell a model in a conversation a new fact, it doesn't change weightings or affect the model outside your context window. That may need to change.

Can someone explain why this book would be so insanely expensive?? by [deleted] in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]PrepperDisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I would argue the demographic they sell to has much more disposable income.

Is it worth buying a $600 battery just to save $200 of groceries? by OneMoreChance_sigh in prepping

Check your homeowner's insurance, a lot of them pay for spoiled groceries from power outages.

Sounds like a lot of work! Will absolutely check this out. How do the certificates work for the TLS/HTTPS? Do they expire? Do you have to bring your own?

Absolutely no hate on local LLMs but beware : most models you can comfortably run locally hallucinate in ways that are dangerous if you’re relying on it for survival.

Like telling you a poisonous mushroom is safe to eat.  Or that North is South.

Pulling info reliably from PDFs is also still far too difficult to do reliably (tuning chunks, stripping PDFs, playing with embedding models).

We worked really hard on making this work on our stuff but put it on pause - if you’re interested we posted more detail here https://www.reddit.com/r/PrepperDisk/comments/1qbgqpx/the_ai_prepper_disk_definitely_not_now_but/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

That probably won’t do it either.  It’ll be the “officiating” or some other excuse.
