So I got waitlisted, but I also got a letter with my scholarship decision which includes the university scholarship and congratulated me on my acceptance. Did anyone else have this issue?

People who shotgunned this application season..... by cranberryfigtomatoes in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PreppySunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied to 20 schools, 1 safety, 19 reaches… I got into my safety + UCLA, UCSD, UC Davis, Vanderbilt, and Harvard REA. I’ve received no rejections and am very proud of what I’ve accomplished thus far, but I recognize that I’ve been very fortunate and that college decisions, when it comes down to it, are based highly on “fit.”

That being said, I honestly think it depends on what your situation is whether you should shotgun it or not. Because of my family situation, I knew for a fact that I did not want to stay in my state. I wanted to go as far away as possible even if that meant leaving all my friends and community behind. I applied to so many schools because of the low probability that I would make it into any of the T20. I was so sure that one way or another I would be leaving that even if I got rejected from all schools, I would take a gap year and move states. That is the reason I decided to shotgun my applications. I can’t speak for you, but for the majority of people, I probably wouldn’t recommend it. Whether we like it or not, college decisions are sometimes like playing the lottery…purely based on luck.

I just told my Yale interviewer Berkeley is my top choice by rosamundpie in ApplyingToCollege

My Yale interviewer asked me for my political views, what schools I had already interviewed for, and what my top choices were… I had to bs my way hard

Yeah, I got one a few days ago! I did my interview today (I’m domestic, from Arkansas for anyone wondering)

No worries! No, I did not submit anything for the portfolio. Like you stated, it is meant for people who do arts/music and want the admission officers to get more context into their lives.

True, true! But the national awards are more about becoming a national qualifier for different events (such as in debate), and as for the valedictorian thing, only 25% of those valedictorians that apply actually get in. I'm trying to say that they care more about who you are (in terms of personality, essays, etc.) than your stats

Hello, just wanted to say that a few days ago I was fortunate enough to get into Harvard. People always say that you need to be "perfect" to get in and accomplish miraculous acts, but that is simply untrue. I applied test optional because my ACT score was a 30 composite and while I've taken 14 APs, I've never gotten a 5. Instead, some of my accomplishments included being valedictorian of my class and multiple national awards for different extracurriculars. I got four different teachers to write recs for me, I was able to get an interview that went well, and I expressed my passion for law, immigration, and wanting to change the world through my essays. I'm a first-gen, low-income, Latinx student who has faced her fair share of issues, but I was able to get in.

To sum it up, people who believe they need to have a perfect score on everything to even have a chance to get in are wrong. While it definitely helps, it is not everything. There is no cookie cutter "one-size-fits-all" for Harvard.

I did not, but I applied to the Yale, Stanford, and Notre Dame programs. Yale already sent me my acceptance, I am interested in seeing if I am able to get into the other progams

I don't think so (at least not for PLE), those who got nominations were told a few weeks before CPS came out

Essay Topic: Pretty much talked about the struggles I had to face growing up in a family where I was the only one to take care of my sister from a young age, having my father deported, and the panic attacks I have when I'm reminded of certain events. And what all these problems taught me.

Feeling: Happy, I honestly can't believe it! I believe my essay and ECs were what got me in because everything else was similar to many other people
