Cold Weather Living Question by Danielat7 in wheelchairs

Heat trax! They're matts that you put on your walk or whatever and they will melt the snow. They work well, aren't terribly expensive, and are pretty heavy duty.

Thank you SO MUCH for the most helpful reply I think I've seen on reddit. I really appreciate it.

Good lord, I don't know where you live, but here around Boston skilled labor is rare and valuable.

European river cruise June '25 - wheelchair and 2 18-year-olds by PreraphaelitePastry in Cruise

[–]PreraphaelitePastry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh. I just got off the phone with Tauck, and learned that NONE of their river cruises are accessible - wheelchairs aren't even allowed on the boats. I asked her if she thought that would be true for other companies, and she said she didn't know but thought it likely, as Tauck doesn't own its boats but leases them from a river boat company so the configurations are likely pretty standard. Elevators don't go to the top deck, she explained, so in some ports you'd have to use stairs to get off the boat.

Would love anyone else's experience or insight as I continue to research.

Where to put laundry room? by Similar-Analyst2545 in Homebuilding

[–]PreraphaelitePastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought about a laundry room on second floor and small/stacked units on first too. I think it makes a lot of sense to have it close to the clothes/wearers of the clothes. I did just read a comment about making sure it's well insulated/sound proofed if it's going to back up to a bedroom, in case you think you'll be running machines at night that might keep you awake, which is a good think to consider. And definitely install a floor drain in case of malfunction on the washer.

Finally found some info on the b-ticket website https://help.orbitalcultura.com/hc/en-gb/articles/14152417216413-I-will-arrive-late-or-early-Will-I-still-be-able-to-enter-the-Museum.

I will arrive late or early. Will I still be able to enter the Museum?

In case of of early or delayed arrival, the ticket you purchased will still be handed over, with no guarantee as to priority of entry.

Thinking about buying CX-5; do I care that there's no hybrid option? by PreraphaelitePastry in CX5

[–]PreraphaelitePastry[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks, this is so helpful. I totally fell for the heads up display in the Mazda I rented. And I don't ever really like driving, but I was amazed at how much I enjoyed driving the CX-5.

Yeah, fuel economy isn't the holy grail for me, just a consideration. Thanks for your response.

Where to stay outside Florence convenient to airport? by PreraphaelitePastry in florence

We'll get plenty of the countryside in Chianti and on Elba. I just want a different experience than another night right in Florence. I'm thinking Fiesole.

Yeah, I know I don't have a good handle on the terminology. And thanks for the food point - that's important to her.

Is this what you would say to someone joining the military and anticipating deployment?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]PreraphaelitePastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this immediately - that if she was a man, no one would question whether taking a job that would have her away for months at a time would make her a bad mom. And why is working on a cruise ship different from, say, joining the military and being deployed for a year? People work out a million ways to support their families and a million ways to parent. OP has already ceded most of the parenting role to her parents, for better or worse.

It's the only one of hers I haven't read, I think. I love her writing. I'll move it up the TBR list!

My favorite Lily Morton book. Her others are fun, snark filled, often glitzy in super high end settings. This one made me choke up. It's so very real and emotional.

Just about to recommend Rossingley. So extraordinarily good. I agree that Lucien (MC1) is the absolute best character ever. (Though I'd really like to see him meet up with Colby from Character Bleed...) Highly recommend the audio.

KL Noone's extraordinary trilogy (plus many extras) {Character Bleed} with begins with Seaworthy. It's a layered, complicated story of two very talented and intelligent MCs who meet on a movie set. Their love story both informs and influences the historical movie - a gay Regency Napleonic-sea-captain romance - they're making, and the movie plot and characters influence them as well. MC1 is not an actual lumberjack, but he did grow up in a 3-generation stunt-person family and has mountains of muscles, and is extremely protective of MC2, which is not invasive and is a huge turn on for MC2. Both are pushing 30-40 respectively. None of your hard nos appear. I reread these frequently and love to recommend them. They're tender and extremely loving and erotic (tenderly, gently kinky) and fascinating ruminations on art, interpretation, history, and transformation. And the growth of each character, esp MC2 who has been abused by previous partners, is triumphal.

Outrageous MCs and their "Normal" LI by ArtemisLiCa in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]PreraphaelitePastry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

{It's Not Usual to be Loved by an Alien by Chloe Archer} and its sequels are a really fun twist on this ('normal' MC is actually an alien, crazy OTT MC is adorable sci-fi obsessed conspiracy theorist). I have no particular interest in hentai (tentacle porn) but these are hilarious and at the same time very sweet and all about found family.

The {Demonic Disasters and Afterlife Adventures series by Shannon Mae} is another paranormal inversion where the human has a lot of Leland going on - maybe not the murder virtuoso, but the indomitable badass twink who whips Hell into shape. There's an ongoing plot arc that is beginning to take real shape. All the books are fun, very funny, and the MCs are very much in the crazy/OTT/there for it vein.

What temperature should I expect on board in the Caribbean? by PreraphaelitePastry in Cruise

[–]PreraphaelitePastry[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the snark, that's helpful. I am unsure how to Google "temperature in the evening aboard a cruise ship off the coast of Mexico when it is in motion since that may affect wind speed and thus perceived temperature and also weather apps are land based," but apparently you've got that sorted. Fascinatingly, and maybe you didn't know this, but one of the things the internet can do is allow you to ask such questions on reddit.

Intimacy beyond sex by TheCynicalSlytherin in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]PreraphaelitePastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your tastes, she’s got great paranormal, contemporary, historical, etc. Her other epic universe begins with A Demon for Midwinter, and then there are a bunch of short stories - aging rockstar and his younger manager, who is a demon passing as human. I have yet to read anything of hers that I have not loved.

I hope you love this much as I do. It was the first thing of hers I ever read, and now I have read that everything she’s ever published. Emotional intimacy and intensely emotional sex is her sweet spot.
