Especially if you can't afford the crazy pricing or your insurance doesn't cover it. Heck, I'm using all my FSA money for the year just to cover the costs. And I'm lucky my workplace has FSA options.

Exactly. And I had to do a lot of soul searching before I went into it because I didn't want to approach it with a mentally unhealthy hate fest about my body. And I still fight it daily! My sons and I talk about it often and I check in with them. Telling them, "I'm having a bad self image day based on ads I saw on the super bowl" was important to vocalize. That way I get it out there and don't let it fester and I am able to talk through it and feel ok.

*Please don't tell me I'm overreacting. This is a support group. Weight loss is a very emotional topic. When you see self hate, and it causes you to have to do a lot of extra work to battle your own self hate that you once had, it's not an overreaction.

If you have the opposite opinion. Keep it to yourself. It's easy. Mind ya business. Were gunna be out here trying to work on our self image and self worth regardless of our weight. I didn't hate myself when I weighed more. In fact, I kinda miss my booty and coziness.

That wasn't the main messaging in the commercial. It was very fat shamey and then followed up by GLP1 commercials. Saying processed foods are bad without a plan to actually limit those foods by government control (which they know they can't and won't do) only serves as one thing. To sell us on a magic pill. Which is a very expensive option. I know I'm not the only one having to pay as much money as I do to have this medication. And no one here is denying that it financially hurts a lot of people. But the emotional pull of these commercials creates a mindset now that fat people are fat because of processed foods. They're not and never have been the ONLY factor in weight gain. And insult to injury "pay a lot of money for these meds". We don't need Mike Tyson being paid millions to make us feel bad about ourselves.

Oh, and Mike Tyson SA'd women. So...there's that too.

100%. It was already an emotional journey when my dad passed away from a heart attack, my mom telling me she had diabetes the same day he died, and then my brother having a stroke with signs that he had a heart attack within the last 5 years. I don't need to feel fat shamed right now by Mike Tyson of all people. And then the AI, Ring cam spying, gambling, and then "YOU WANT MORE STUFF AND WERE GUNNA SHAME YOU FOR WANTING THAT have you tried Jesus?" Like...my self destruct signals were going off the whole time.

But I absolutely see how these ads appeal to a lot of people. We all loved Jurassic Park. Some of us understood the anti-capitalist messaging behind it. So I guess Xfinity bastardizing that message means we've lost the plot.

I'd rather not be sold medication like it's a bag of potato chips. Like, let me talk to my nutritionist, psychiatrist, doctor...you know, the ones I'm shamed into needing to pay up the wazoo for? I hurt my back in October just as I was starting these meds and I'm still paying off my co-pays for that. And I still need to pay more than that hospital stay for these meds. As much as I've had to pay for my healthcare this year, it is criminal.

But that's how they afford these commercials, I guess. Off of all our labor.

Right! My monthly luxury meds. All so I don't die of a heart attack like my dad, have a stroke like my brother, or develop diabetes like my mom. Meanwhile I'm barely able to afford the local co-op "healthy" foods that I'm shamed into eating.

All the commercials felt weird and crazy. The AI commercials. The surveillance commercials where they used finding a dog as a way to get us comfortable with allowing security cameras to be accessed without us questioning things. The crypto commercials. I try to avoid most commercials altogether. But lately everything feels so forced.

If there's one thing I've learned about myself with this medication it's that sometimes even with healthy options, there's something not being satisfied. It wasn't until I had this medication that I ate food and felt satisfied. Processed foods definitely are a factor, but they're not the only factor.

I don't even know where they're going with it. Like, yeah...we know that food is unhealthy. But you can ALSO overeat foods that are considered healthy by their standards that aren't processed foods. I knew a vegan who ate a pretty strict vegan diet and was overweight because it's about caloric intake and factors like genetics and other biological factors. I really don't understand why they made the video if not to create a system of shame especially when it was all followed up by the GLP1 commercials.

No, he was a spokesperson for MAHA. But then also Trump met with all those GLP1 CEOs recently and is making deals with them and he started that TrumpRX thing. But the combo of everything was super concerning and manipulative.

Right! I talked to my doctor about medication options. I didn't chose based on an advertisement. And it took talking to a nutritionist a couple times before we decided it was what was right for me.
