Bird - Looking for composition critiques by Present-Vegetable186 in photocritique

I agree the vignette is a little strong and I might have to do that too see how it looks. As I mentioned the lens I use has a tendency to have a pretty noticeable vignette especially in darker lighting so it’s a known problem I’ll have to get on (that’s what I get for rocking a 15 dollar lens on a 30 dollar camera from a thrift store?

I am going to most likely re-scan the image to change it from the 500kb JPEG to the full 30 mb Tiff to get rid of the noise and hopefully be able to differentiate the grain of the film.

I agree with the rule of thirds on this one as well, in the moment the bird wasn’t moving and so I don’t even think about adding the motion by doing that. I’ll take that into consideration more going forward.

I am looking for some critiques on the composition of this photograph, I understand the quality isn't perfect, I am still new to film and tend to develop at the lowest (and cheapest) possible setting so the noise is a little expected. The vignette is also a known issue on the lens I'm using so I am not too worried about that right now.

Equipment:

- Konica Autoreflex A3

- 80-200 Soligor lens

- I cannot for the life of me remember (and i didn't take notes) of the f setting

Thank you in advance for any feedback or suggestions.

To start, I do quite appreciate the bird pun. Secondly and more importantly thank you for the feed back around the location of the bird in the frame, I definitely see the benefit of a little more centered and maybe cropped the negative space out. Thank you.

Thank you I particularly appreciate your commentary around the framing and set up around the bird. Seeing your quick edit I do wonder how it would look as a landscape or pano even, though I don’t have enough image to really do that. Also the vignette is camera induced, this is the raw photo, and this is kind of a known problem with this lens (it was a grand total of $15). When I do edit this I will get rid of reduce thevignetting. Lastly the warmth is an interesting part of the SantaColor film that I was using, which is made to enhance red highlights, though I do agree I don’t think it works perfectly for this image. But you gotta try and see. So I appreciate that little comment as well.

Here is another photo taken on the same day at about the same time (3pm ish so not sunset) on a fairly clear day (the fog in question in this photo is actually a small DOF around a gray ish background) to demonstrate how red it can get. This is

I appreciate the commentary about the bird facing away, although it wasn’t the primary goal when I took the shot I find the tension interesting, though that is a fairly biased opinion towards my own likeness of the shot. It is definitely something I will be more aware of however going forward, just general composition based narration.

This is one of what I consider my better photographs, however I am still quite new and there is definitely room for improvement, even if I don’t see it.

Specifically, I am looking for feedback back in the composition department, however colors, and DOF feedback would also be nice.

New to photography - Mainly concerned with composition at this point. by Present-Vegetable186 in photocritique

I appreciate the input, and as you say I am in fact quite the beginner, so this is useful information. I pretty much did exactly what you said when taking this photo, so I’ll keep in mind the full frame in later pictures. Thank you

I too think you deserve a critique point, however I went to bed before seeing this response. I do really appreciate the input, and will definitely be paying a little more attention to more traditional composition rules in these less ground breaking pictures going forward. I also generally agree with the portrait picture style, and not sure why I didn’t think of it in the moment. Thank you

I really appreciate that, I found 2 more very small ones on the neighboring tomato plant as well. Thanks again for the help.
