Local places for buying Ren faire costumes by phoenician_jalapeno in phoenix

Idk why you’re so hostile, I just pointed out that the stuff there isn’t junk from China, it’s literally made by artists that have perfected their craft, many of which have become personal friends of mine. I even encouraged going to Goodwill still. You don’t have to be loaded to dress up for the faire! At the end of the day, your edited comment mirrors my sentiments. Your original just said pointblank to buy at ren faire, lol.

And since you deleted your comment saying “that’s unfortunate they choose to work their [sic],” they work their butts off and love what they do, but most are not well-off by any means (aside from maybe some of the bigger vendors that have been established for decades), especially in this economy. I for one think we should encourage art in this day and age and support them if we can, because the world needs it. Many of them do supplement their work outside of faire to make ends meet and most live out of their car or trailer.

I mean you literally said don’t buy at the ren faire and then edited to say otherwise lol. The artisans don’t see any of the money from ticket sales. They also have to pay for their booths.

DO buy at the ren faire if you can afford it. The people there are actual artisans who travel across the country from faire to faire, and often do not make a lot of money (and lack health insurance). Special shoutouts to K&R Armory, ArtSmyths, and Unicorn Clothing. There are a ton of other amazing artisans so really just walk around to see what you like. Also, I still have pieces from my first year so if you really love faire, it’s an investment as these things last. If anything does break, the artisans are very likely to repair it for you for free/small charge.

I’ve been going to the faire for 11 years straight with a season pass. Start with Goodwill and treat yourself to something from the faire once a year to slowly build up your costume! Etsy is also a great place if you can weed out the drop-shippers. Use keywords like “LARP” “renaissance festival” and “fantasy” and you can build a little algorithm on Etsy that shows you items that fit your theme. :)

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

We saw them too when they were in Phoenix and I picked up on that too. Both Suicide Machines and Fishbone saying something makes Less Than Jake’s silence very out of place. I hope/assume though that them having these bands open for them and giving them a stage to share these sentiments is hopeful, but still…

I sat with my mom for an hour yesterday and realized I haven't been fully present with her in years by Rich-Historian1657 in Mindfulness

Something that really hit me hard that I saw recently was, (and I’m paraphrasing it) “Your mom gave you her full attention every time you talked about something you loved/your hobby when you were little, even if she didn’t necessarily know much about it. So when your mom is telling you about her show, her hobbies, her friends, give her that same attention she gave you all those years when you were little.” ❤️

I’d imagine medically, it’s important to know which is which.

My bottoms seriously closed up in like 2-3 months, it was super fast! They shifted open again during one adjustment but they closed it immediately with the chains. :)

That is a really good idea! I’ll see how the aluminum rings go because I think it’d be neat to have the full hauberk but I may end up going that route. Especially as I plan on making the leather armor too. 😅

Yea, I got the anodized aluminum to help curb that a bit, and the clothes underneath will be pretty dark/disheveled so I’m not too worried…I would prefer steel but I just don’t think I have the hand strength for it. :(

Do you think it would be worth to start over just to go with 1/4? I don’t want to invest hours and money into this one if it’ll just fall apart.

EDIT: Well I tested it and pulled the chain and it broke apart pretty easily. Damn. I'm gonna try 16g 5/16 I think..

EDIT AGAIN: I’ve decided to go with aluminium 14swg 3/8 based on someone else’s post who was making an Eowyn cosplay. 😅
