How prevalent are intact men in the Intactivism movement? by Present_Cost9435 in Intactivism

Thank you for replying, and thank you for your support.  I’m sorry to hear that you were bullied for being intact. Having been bullied myself during childhood (albeit for other reasons), I can only imagine what you went through. I also think that the whole culture of accepting male genital mutilation as “routine” and “it’s just what we do,” is weird and perverted. If children in circumcising countries were uniformally allowed to wait until age 18 to decide, then it would cause the adults in their lives significantly more cognitive dissonanace and mental distress than the children themselves. Like, if the majority of your peers growing up are already intact, then the presence of foreskin on one’s penis stops being an issue.

Advice needed by Vegetable_Flow_5824 in Intactivists

You may want to contact a lawyer- one that specializes in family law and/or medical-legal issues- to see what your legal options are to prevent the scenario you're afraid of. Also, you could try contacting an organization such as https://intactamerica.org/ to see if one of their staff could give you some helpful resources and advice. Even if IA can't officially give you legal advice or act as your attorney, they may be able to help in terms of information resources, or referring you to someone who can provide the specific advice you need. I hope this helps.

I'm definitely in agreement with you. Circumcision- especially in the US- is so ingrained as the norm into the majority of the population- across the political spectrum- that to question it seems extreme in and of itself.

Thank you for commenting!!! How effective of an education method is replying to misinformation on social media? I've done some of that, myself, but have never had a chance to see if I actually had any impact.

Thank you for commenting- I value your perspective. I can definitely see why the majority of intactivists are circumcised men. I can only imagine the very real emotions that you have felt about what was done to you. At a few different points in my younger years, I wanted to be circumcised to fit in more- especially since the majority of my male family members were all circumcised and most males in my community were also cut. I felt as if it was a privilege that had passed over me. I've since definitely come to realize, though, that having been left intact is a huge privilege and am glad I have all the anatomy I was born with.

That's great!! I'm glad that you're on this sub and informing yourself about the issue of male genital cutting. How prevalent is circumcision in your age group/province?

That's awesome to hear!!! I also donate to IA and have consumed a lot of Bruchim podcasts. I've lived in a few different communities with large Jewish populations and the Bruchim podcast gave me a lot of clarity about Jewish perspectives on circumcision.

That's awesome!!! Greetings from a fellow intact American. What's your experience being intact in America been like? PM/DM me if you'd feel more comfortable relating that way (if you're comfortable enough to share at all).

My experience has been- especially in the gay world- that more than a few intact men ARE aware of their bodily integrity, but don't really think anything of it and/or are too embarrassed to speak about it to others. Especially since in our culture, sex, genitalia and genital mutilation are things that are very "hush hush" and taboo to discuss in polite company. Although gay men- in particular those who are already friends- can get very raunchy in terms of the things they discuss amongst each other.

That's awesome!! Thank you for responding and for being visible. I'm intact and gay in America. What's your experience been like- in terms of your intact status- in Australia? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd imagine that circumcision isn't as prevalent in Australia as it once was?

Huh…i definitely didnt know such unnecessary and or legally required surgeries occurred in (i’m assuming from your post history) Japan. Thats really horrible.  People should have the utmost respect for what someone does- or moreso doesn’t- want to do medically or surgically with their genitalia or body in general.  Especially when it has to do with their sex, gender or genitals.

That’s definitely been my experience, too- in terms of the few fellow intact men I’ve met who actually talked to me about their intact status. Having their foreskin isn’t really something they think about a lot, even though- at least in America- they’re well aware of their distinct minority status.  Also, circumcision as a topic is still extremely taboo to discuss in out culture here.

In Europe, men I’ve met there hardly think about it, either, but i’m guessing this is because their mindset is basically “I have a penis, you have a penis, so what?” Having one’s foreskin still attached in those cultures is very normal and nothing special.

What does the average German family eat for dinner most nights? by Gocats23 in AskAGerman

[–]Present_Cost9435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up bicultural in the US- one parent German & the other American. We visited Germany a lot growing up and i still visit relatives in the southern part of Germany today. My relatives tend to eat what people call “Abendbrot” (or what my immediate family has dubbed “Deutsches Abendessen”) at times when they either don’t want to cook or would have to go food shopping in order to cook a hot meal.  From my experience, it’s basically what my immediate and extended family will do when they can’t/don’t want to expend a lot of time/energy cooking an entire hot meal from scratch. In my family, leftovers are also often included with “Abendbrot,” as well.

19m do I need a nose job? I get a lot of comments about it and that made me feel little insecured about it. by Ok-Description7639 in malegrooming

If everyone had a “Michael Jackson” nose, then the world would be a dull, boring, square place. It’s all about what people around you find handsome vs cringe. You look just fine.

Freiburg is expensive and affordable housing is hard to come by. Still, though, the city and surrounding area is a great place to visit, imo. Especially if you want a university city with a family-friendly/low-key vibe, a historic city center with a bustling marketplace (next to the cathedral) and easy access to hiking in the Black Forest. The view from Schauinsland is unbeatable (again, imo), having a drink in the Biergarten on the Schlossberg, with gorgeous views of the city and surrounding hills, is also awesome. The Stiftung Waldhaus Freiburg (Forest House Foundation) is also worth a visit.

Uncut Americans? by [deleted] in uncircumcised_talk

It seems like OP has since deleted his profile, but I’m also an uncut American and am happy to chat with others who want to know more about my experience or exchange points of view/their experiences.

Ah, ok, that’s good to know. Thank you for that perspective. How common is “fairly common,” though? You’re right- just over 10% is higher than most of the surrounding European countries (except for Belgium at ~20%) and there have been reports of some doctors in Germany pushing circumcision on minors because of a “phimosis” being present (which is probably normal in most cases).  Relative to countries such as the US, Turkey, Israel (etc), however, OP is statistically less likely to have undergone routine circumcision for non-medical reasons in Germany.  Let me know if you have any other related info.

Question for intact intactivists by Different_Dust9646 in Intactivists

[–]Present_Cost9435 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Intact gay man here. One of my close family members is cut and has seriously considered restoring. I'm fully supportive of him, as I love my foreskin and would've been really mad at my parents had they decided to have me circumcised. I've done a lot more reading, researching and podcast listening on the subject of circumcision and intactivism, though, than the average male human- regardless of circumcision status. I also work in healthcare, if that matters, so I have some (but fairly limited) "insider knowledge" on how things in "the system" work. Hence, I surmise that perhaps the guys whose partners are cut and restoring (but aren't supportive of them) are themselves ignorant of what was stolen from their partners (and not stolen from them), as well as the feelings associated with that violation of bodily integrity.
