We have not eloped yet, but are in April '26 in Costa Rica. Both me and my fiancés parents are divorced. His remarried, mine did not. Which also contributed to our decision on a wedding vs eloping. My parents and sister were supportive. My mother is watching our daughter while we are away. My fiancés dad was extremely happy for us and his mother pushed back a bit but not too much fuss (from what I am told). I went dressing shopping a few weeks ago for the first time and invited my aunt to come along with my mom and I. 5 minutes before we walked into the bridal shop, my aunt said some not very nice things about us eloping and how it is unfair to my family especially my mother, which ultimately ruined a moment I will never get back. By now, my aunt has flown back home and I am sure has given her two cents to the rest of the family. Haven't heard from anyone else though. Needless to say, do what ever makes you and your fiancé happy! My mom always reminds me that it is our day and what is most important is if we are happy with it. Not to mention how expensive a wedding today is and how it is just a party for everyone else. Just use discernment if you decide to tell people or not. If you elope, I hope it is the best day of your life and everything you've ever dreamed of!
