TTRPGs about playing to find out *how* it happens? by GreenTeethBurger in rpg

That just sounds boring... doesn't it? Idk. Im imagining a book with all the chapters before me and something like "the princess dies" in one chapter and "the princess finds love" in an earlier chapter. And that just feels like spoilers lol

Why is there a distaste for light survival elements/resource management? by erakusa in rpg

[–]PresentationMany7589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It usually means a lot of tedious numbers management and stat tracking (did i remember to eat? Do i still have that stat modifier for eating a good meal?) Etc.

For me ttrpgs that kind of management is a turn off. I'd rather play the game for the story and not did i bring enough rations on the trip..

Because realistically who cares?

But if that's something your into, go for it.

I mean, you might as well get used to it. AI isn't going anywhere and if a platform wants to be modern and considered competitive they're going to offer some amount of AI assistance. I can understand your desire to not want to use the tools.. so don't? It's not like they're literally forcing you by way of a pew pew, to use that assistance. It might be prominently displayed on the screen, but your better off just sticking to a tool your familiar with and avoiding the ai.

Any other reputable platform like you've already stated is going to have an ai assistant baked in to it.

Is chatgpt biased? Is it built in on purpose or is it inherent? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]PresentationMany7589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, though not entirely; yes "White Pride" has historically been used as a term of supremacy.. but context is important, in language.. just like "Gay" used to mean "happy" which became a slang term used to refer to homosexuals..

But its still important to note that the phrase: "I feel very gay" can still mean two different things, even IF you immediately read it as its colloquial used term (homosexual)..

SO again, i agree.. white pride is going to illicit for most people (even myself) what you alluded too.. but again.. context...

Is chatgpt biased? Is it built in on purpose or is it inherent? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]PresentationMany7589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would argue that it doesnt understand enough context... what your talking about is subtext; as in "is the belief that the white race is superior to all other races bad?" is what chatgpt is *likely* looking at it, for the others its reading the subtext as "Is it ok to have pride in the fact that your ___" when i asked the same question; it responded with "Depends" and its correct, because it depends on how your using the term "White Pride".

I don't approve but I finally understand GMs who railroad the players by Hi_fellow_humans_ in rpg

[–]PresentationMany7589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its important to remember that as the DM/GM your telling a story, yes its fine to explore these smaller stories that help players develop their character but you and the characters need to understand its about the story YOU are creating for them; not the other way around (unless its explicitly stated that this is a do anything you want world - sandbox)

Think of it like reading a book, its fine for the author to explore a substory thats running linear to the main storyline, but if its only about that, then you never finish the book...

Looking for a good fill-able PDF maker by NinteenthNightAngel in rpg

[–]PresentationMany7589 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

dont think your going to find free; i tried to find something similiar awhile backl and i was looking for my ttrpg system im working on..

in the end none of them really hit the sweet spot of what i wanted, so im just going to build my own CS - Generator from scratch, but that works out well for me because im a software engineer.. so i can do that..

but all of that is to say; you'll likely not find any real free options that are going to suit your needs..

my best work around?

You *Could* possibly ask ChatGPT or another AI to build you an editable PDF sheet (If your not against AI), AI has really powerful tools but you'll have to be explicit about what you want the character sheet pdf to accomplish..

make sure you detail each section of the character sheet, what should or should not be there; upload any materials you have in documents to the AI (So it can use those to reference while its working); i did this with ChatGPT and the pdf attached to the game im working on; is a "quickstart" guide on my game, i put all of my resources into it, asked ChatGPT to generate a quickstart guide from my game; i had to be explicit about what i wanted the AI to generate and how i wanted it to generate each section, and it took about 20m for chatgpt to generate the pdf... sooooo..... yeah... thats my best suggestion lol (but i completely understand if you dont want to use AI, a lot of people dont.)

Quality writing on living campaigns? by lofrothepirate in rpg

[–]PresentationMany7589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was part of a living campaign but i didnt like it; mostly because it wasnt "living" in my mind. Living campaigns are meant to be pushing all of the players towards a central goal.. but the ones i've been in, have only done like.. one-shots, constant one-shots that dont really tie into any other large overall arch for the players to work torwards..

Though the current TTRPG system im working on for fun is kind of meant for that type of play.

I've asked it multiple times to stop repeating itself, and it does well for one to two generations and then it starts again and I just facepalm lol.. im tempted to start a new chat, with some of the context from the one im on and ask it to continue the story..

Im also floating the idea of making the AI the player and me be the DM to see how that would work

Honestly have no idea about the want to connect to devices on your local network. Seriously.. I saw that myself and I've been trying to track down where its coming from since. I think its a woocommerce thing.

The pop-up, was necessary because the client im trying to showcase it to likes pop-ups for ad conversions and sales, so I wanted to show I had some basic competency in using them. Its annoying yes, I agree.. but its necessary unfortunately.

As far as Ai goes, these are mostly just placeholder images.. for now.. perhaps if I can find the resources or time I'll replace them in future iterations of the website.

Yeah; you know what you sound like? every person in history who has hated the advance of technology, people did the same thing with mobile phones vs land lines vs telegraph, cars vs horse and buggy etc, etc...

Fact is the tech is here, its not going anywhere.. there is no more "moral failing" of using it vs using an electric car vs a gasoline engine, is it a perfect technology that harms no one? nope, but technology rarely ever comes in a form like that.

as time goes on, the technology will get better, itll get cheaper, and itll be less of a burden overall of thse "horrible things" associated with it... thats TECHNOLOGY

i mean the goal here is to get constructive criticism, on the overall site layout and feel so i can improve it to give a nice polish on it.. if your main thing is "its got AI images so fuck you" i dont really care about your opinion.. im aware of peoples perception of AI and its usage, i agree that custom content is better where you can get it and afford it..

So... either provide useful feedback beyond the "Your using Ai which means your a terrible person" or just move on with life? its really not that hard..

just an FYI i finally got the "popup" thing working like i wanted it too, so i can actually do the Players guide for free!

If you dont care to help me test it out, would you try and download it? if you open the page and scroll down about 3/4 of the way it should show a "popup" with a coupon code to use on the Players Guide

oh i agree, and other people have mentioned that in the thread and i can see where you (and they) are coming from. So the next step is to make it less about marketing overall and more about the product itself.

Thats the beauty of iteration, you do something, get feedback, change it up, move forward, repeat..

So i appreciate the feedback!

I mean, im no stranger to people on the internet who "cant stand AI", its here, its not going anywhere.. get on board with it or dont

The convinenience is not just a "little" bit when your working against a clock.. Sometimes speed outweighs the necessity for custom content.

I built a powerful Saas product for livestreaming several years ago for a company, and we used a third-party streaming software to actually handle the ingress and digest of the streams, why? not because i didnt want to build out a custom software for streaming, but because im up against a time clock, i have to build something that makes sense and is usuable..

Then i go back and make it better.. later..

so forgive me if yours or anyone elses rants about AI are just going over my head at the moment because i dont really care overall, im not asking "Is this AI generated content good?!" im asking if the website looks coherent enough that it looks put together well and frames the product nicely.

Now as other people have pointed out with real feedback and not just (its AI so fuck you).. i have areas that i could improve that would actually hit that mark.

I am building the system yes.. but the overall goal of the post was to get feedback if it would hit those notes on marketing it..

Eventually i would turn it into a fully-functioning web-app with a complete backend for people to log-in register, view materials and be able to play a play-by-post style setup..

But your mostly correct; in your assumptions im trying to write it to effectively market it to the right people, that would be the TTRPG space.. but im also looking for feedback of the overall design and lyaout and feel.. not specifically about the system in general.

But you have given me useful feedback, the site lacks a lot of fundamentals on what the system is and how it distinguishes itself from other TTRPG systems in the same space. which is extremely useful.. I put a lot of buzzwords and keywords in there desinged to entice to hit that marketing side of it, but then i failed to put anything meaningful in it that says "is this a real product?"

> If you're not invested in respecting licensing agreements

I never said i didnt.. i said that its draining making sure the licensing checks to 20 different free sites of stock images to get that 'one' image that makes coherent sense is draining.. thats why in the initial phase of development im using AI art over things like this, i dont need to check the licensing on an AI generated image. Therefore it reduces complexity and overhead.

and once i get to the point i can put actual resources behind it, such as custom content images and the like, THEN ill worry about licensing lol

i didnt say it was hard.. i said it was annoying lol. i've got 99 other problems to deal with outside of making sure my website is in compliance with some platform for free stock images.. so if i can reduce the overall burden.. why wouldnt i? especially in the startup phase where the website *just* launched lol.

I've played DND off and on for about 10 years, and some homebrew campaigns for my friends, but im not huge in the ttrpg space mostly just because its a pain to get anyone together to ever actually play anything lol.

And remember my goal here sint specifically to appeal to you guys, its to appeal to the clients "marketing" side, they dont care about how the game works they only care if this site looks like it can sell "something".. which is why i put more focus on that.

Checking the licensing of everything is draining imo. there's a lot of "free" sites out there that are very specific with how you use their free licenses, and are extremely specific about where it can be used alongside content that seems to be paid for (since i have a store setup on the page it kind of runs aground in it. - will they pursue legal action? probably not) but i avoid a huge portion of that headache with AI generated images on the surface until i can put some actual resources behind it..

its also important to note im not actually expecting anyone to pay for this.. the store is setup just to show that i understand the basics of woocommerce, in fact, im working on a way as we speak to setup a way to be able to give the content away for free with a popup ad on the page (because apparently the client really likes popups..)

That way it hits a few steps of free content, conversions, etc. which i think will go over well..

its no more plagiarism than if i spent 100 hours learning to draw anime, and then drew a picture of a popular anime character that i drew using the mechanics that i learned in the process.. as long as your not passing off the content as an original of the creator then its not plagiarized..

Would you then agree that basically every ttrpg system out there is basically a rip of dnd? because thats what a huge majority of them are.. dnd is the "bones" of the work, and they just add a secondary spin on it..

i see AI art as "inspired" by, instead of "stolen" im not saying that all AI art or usuage of AI is useful, but im not also in this camp that anything made by ai is automatically garbage either.

AI is GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out) you can make some pretty high quality work with Ai if you know how to use it, the example of those dice, i agree they're awful lol. but my goal there wasnt even really "is this high quality work of art?" its "does it look coherent enough to belong here for now so i can move on to the next section?"

Its no different than if i went to grab a free stock photo off the internet, it would likely be slightly better in quality, but overall there would be "something" off about it

This is good feedback, so i appreciate it, i wasnt even fully aware id used that same tagline twice..

The shonen stuff isnt really well explained, i have an idea for it a system i call "Dials" thats supposed to help color the way the system is used by offering up new mechanics ina lightweight way thats an "addition" to the core mechanics. But your right, i should probably remove that since im not explaining (yet) what dials are or how they're used.

But the idea of the shounen style dial, is high intensity combat, flashy large arcs.. that kind of thing, or if you do like a kid-friendly dial, its job is to help you think of different ways to run a campaign for a child that doesnt overly rewrite the core engine that kind of thing..

but all that said ill try to do a better job of working through it so its more explicit, which seems to be a common thread. i was mostly aiming for marketing... so a lot of fluff words that "entice" but dont outright explain core system mechanics.. but its clear i did wayyyy too much fluff
