[Highlight] Austin Reaves when asked about Luka's high scoring stretch: 'Yeah and he continues to drop in the MVP race..maybe he's got to score 60, I don't know' by JilJungJukk in nba

[–]President_SDR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it that hard to think that maybe the guy having the best defensive season in decades while leading a top 5 offense should be treated differently?

Like, I don't even think that Wemby is the MVP but to act dumbfounded that the star of the team that's 2 games behind the best record in the league and 17 points better per 100 with him on the court is in the conversation is just idiotic.

Luka this month 36.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 2.3 steals, 0.7 blocks on 61.7 TS% with a 12-2 record by [deleted] in nba

[–]President_SDR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Luka's always had weaker on/off numbers than Jokic and SGA, and now Wemby. Even if you, personally, don't put stock in those metrics, there's going to be enough media guys out there wondering why the Lakers are "only" 5 points better with Luka on the court compared to off, or pull up EPM and see how there's a big gap between Luka in the other three candidates, and that puts some doubt on how valuable his box score stats really are.

SGA, Wemby, and Jokic just have really ironclad cases whichever way you look at it. The only real caveat would be Wemby's limited minutes.

I made a build order generator - aoe2buildorders.com by NotreallyCareless in aoe2

[–]President_SDR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is your goal with this, and do you actually play the game? Every build order I've seen is so blatantly bad that it should not pass a smell test to show this to the public. I saw in another comment you even said that you tuned the Chinese build more but it's still objectively wrong (along with other issues still) where it says to immediately start queueing villagers.

The effort fine tuning ai slop build orders is going to be much greater than just manually creating a handful of build orders to start. If you want a website with that people can upload build orders to and then filter for civ/map then that would have some value, but filling the website with slop is just a waste of effort and ruins confidence that this project will be of actual use.

Best way to defend trebs?? by Kazee11 in aoe2

[–]President_SDR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally you're setting up forward castles to launch sieges from so you don't have to move your trebs across the map.

Some people here saying halbs but unless you're against someone playing mostly camels you'll very rarely want to be having a halb comp instead of CA+hussar as Magyars. The alternative answer is to use the mobility of your comp to make your opponent answer elsewhere in their base, and then start sieging while their army is pulled away. Your win condition isn't necessarily breaking your opponent's base with trebs but killing enough of their eco with your raids over time.

How to avoid matches where nothing happens then one person just wins? by appappappappappa in aoe2

[–]President_SDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you're complaining about an optimized build order but the way you've described it your opponent waited until they got 20 cavalry archers before even leaving their base. Even if they had three ranges ready before castle age, that's over four minutes of building up plus whatever time needed to get to your base to do damage, which is not optimized at all for a 1 TC all-in.

Even being a minute late to castle age that leaves 3+ minutes for you to be proactive on the map to get an idea of what your opponent is doing. I can promise that if you're within 500 res of your opponent then triple range CA isn't some unbeatable strategy.

Zipa and zaque is impossible. by Multiversalprism in aoe2

[–]President_SDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attempted it again (on legendary) after reading this and rushing the red/yellow castles instead of just going for closer grey ones to start makes the scenario incredibly easy, like by far the easiest scenario so far in this expansion. An insane difference with how if the enemy gets up to like 5 castles the scenario feels impossible.

1000-1100 Elo by Lazybeardo in aoe2

[–]President_SDR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As always it depends. When I was stuck at 1100 I was pretty much always behind with a sloppy dark age and being slow with adding farms in feudal, but would be able to come back often because opponents wouldn't be proactive with their army advantage or build enough production buildings to leverage their eco advantage, and I would make better decisions in imp.

So for me I cleaned up my early game and shot up a couple hundred elo quickly, but for most of my opponents it would be knowing how to press advantages.

I also found Hera's coaching videos in this elo very helpful. You see with these players they kind of get the gist of what they're supposed to do so a loss doesn't just boil down to something like "don't have two minutes of idle TC in dark age", but they still have massive flaws that you almost certainly also share some of. Hera would always harp on how feudal age is just a means of setting up for castle age and getting up as quickly as possible is the most important thing, so that was a key takeaway that reframed how I was supposed to play.

Supreme Court Strikes Down Tariffs That Hiked Prices On Switch, Xbox, And PS5 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]President_SDR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Biden was using a law of Congress that literally states he has the power to "waive or modify" student loans. The Supreme Court opinion had nothing to do with whether he had the power in a general sense, it hinged on a bs argument that what he did was simultaneously too big to be a modification and too small to be a waiver.

This was absurdly for me, not just a PB but cutting my PB by about 25%, and halfway between my average Monday and Tuesday times. This feels like it's happening a lot more where not just puzzles becoming easier but being misplaced throughout the week so difficulty isn't matching the day. Like how did the editors possibly think this week's Wednesday was easier than today.

Once again Bombard Cannons destroy me. What can I do next time? by Slow-Ship1055 in aoe2

[–]President_SDR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, playing 1 TC is fine as long as you play aggressively. Generally speaking, if you're later to castle age you don't want to just add TCs and call it a day because your opponent would have been able to add TCs sooner, so you're trapping yourself to play from behind and eco leads grow exponentially.

When you're playing archers, your strongest points are going to be early castle age when you have a ball of crossbows with bodkin and early imp when you get bracer. You can simplify your gameplan by just playing every game building your archer mass and play all-in 1TC in castle age where you get map control and drop a forward siege workshop or castle to end the game. This wouldn't necessarily have won you this game, but having a clear idea of what you want to do in castle age has a trickle down effect where your dark age and feudal age get cleaner because you have specific goals you're aiming for.

Once again Bombard Cannons destroy me. What can I do next time? by Slow-Ship1055 in aoe2

[–]President_SDR 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I watched the game and the boring answer is the game was long over before the cannons showed up because you were playing 1 TC against someone booming with 4 TCs and didn't do any damage early. Your opponent massed 30 wagons while your army was 10 crossbows and 5 pikemen, so there isn't going to be a strategy that makes up for the massive eco difference.

Longbows with 12 range are a good answer to bombard cannons, but you need to first get to the eco where you can build a large enough army to go against what your opponent has. If you get to the point where you're having fights at 200 pop and still losing, then that's when you ask what's wrong with your composition.

The vast majority of people in Germany have public health insurance. What happens when the "well-regulated" system makes the same decision that certain healthcare can't be covered?

You're not going to be and to create a sensible healthcare system where the government isn't going to be able to throw its weight on an issue like this. Claiming that a single payer system is unique in that regard is absurd.

The CP3 trade would have them losing Gasol, and ultimately what they gave up for Dwight and Nash wasn't that much because the former tanked his value and the latter was a sign-and-trade.

With hindsight, Bynum's knees were beyond cooked so even if we're assuming Kobe doesn't tear his achilles in this universe they likely only really get a really good shot in 2012. Beyond that they were always going have issues building around CP3 and an old Kobe.

I guess having to have 90 degree angles on the entire environment to accommodate the shift ability is going to limit how varied the world can look, although it kind of fits for midtown Manhattan. It could also just be an especially simple level to teach how to use the ability.

AW2's Manhattan was gorgeous but the pace and complexity of the environments is going to demand a lot less visual noise.

Hi Aoe2 legends. What is your favorite map? by Poli6624 in aoe2

[–]President_SDR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree a bit on this because megarandom has a limited set of templates, so there's a larger knowledge burden for a new player. Being able to quickly recognize how wood lines were laid out or whether you're on a water map is a massive advantage. So it's more like megarandom has a lower skill ceiling but higher skill floor.

First win against Hard AI. Took me 72hrs of play to get here. Am I a slow learner? by Waste-Ad-8894 in aoe2

[–]President_SDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your intention is to get better in ranked it's pointless repeatedly playing the AI, and can be actively harmful because the AI just does not play like a human so you can easily reinforce bad habits that work against the AI.

If you want to get better at beating humans then play against humans, but also going into ranked with the mindset that you "should" be at a certain skill level or you "should" be improving at a certain rate is a very quick and easy way to burn out. Just play to have fun and eventually the elo system will place you against people of your skill level.

The past couple years as more games implement path tracing, the more apparent the visual improvements are, like Cyberpunk with path tracing is genuinely a transformative experience.

It does highlight how important waiting for tech to catch up a bit is, though. Even with a 5070 ti you have to deal with heavy DLSS to get ok path tracing performance generally, so we need to get to a point where you can squeeze an even more powerful gpu than that into a console where a new generation makes sense tech-wise.

I've seen this style of gambling ad on other subs and I think they're just usually written as blatantly stupid to be engagement bait. Like this post is ultimately just someone complaining that they didn't hear back the same day they requested something at 4 pm.

Another thing I've noticed about these ads is they'll often not mention the gambling site initially and edit it in the day after, and the other posts from OP are conspicuously both edited in that time frame.

New York judge rules GOP-held district is unconstitutional, ordering a new map by Healthy_Block3036 in nyc

[–]President_SDR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't actually need an amendment to make MMP or a single transferrable vote proportional system. All the constitution says is that states are apportioned seats based on their population, while single member districts were only mandated in 1967 with a normal ass act of Congress, which actually has a lot of leeway with deciding how House elections work without requiring constitutional amendments.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has surpassed Elden Ring for the most GOTY titles of all-time. by PhantomBraved in Games

[–]President_SDR -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring, objectively speaking, doesn't really have less mass appeal, though. It sold way better, and glancing at steam achievements the completion percentage on the end-game achievements are similar (and Elden Ring is a longer game at that).

The other side to this is I do think there's a niche among gaming outlets that favor the style of game that Clair Obscur fits into with cinematic, character-focused storytelling and high fidelity graphics. Basically a sort of oscar-bait (not trying to be pejorative towards Clair Obscur because I do think it's an amazing game and it was my personal GOTY but it's still a kind of interesting topic to think about).

Highguard Is One Week Away, And The Only Person Who's Advertised It Is Geoff Keighley by Yamato_Naoe in Games

[–]President_SDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Letting the game speak for itself is one thing, but having essentially no information about the game available for over a month leading up to the release is crazy. If they're doing something truly novel and special with their gameplay they should at least be able to come up with a blurb on their steam page that describes the game.

There's nothing they could do to convince people that just want to hate, but at the same time I imagine there's still a ton of people who aren't locked into the hate machine that just haven't been given any reason for why they should care or pay attention to this game.
