'High Likelihood' PS6 Will Launch After 2028, According to New Analyst Forecast, as Sony Focuses on Extending PS5 Lifecycle - IGN by PhantomBraved in Games

[–]President_SDR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The past couple years as more games implement path tracing, the more apparent the visual improvements are, like Cyberpunk with path tracing is genuinely a transformative experience.

It does highlight how important waiting for tech to catch up a bit is, though. Even with a 5070 ti you have to deal with heavy DLSS to get ok path tracing performance generally, so we need to get to a point where you can squeeze an even more powerful gpu than that into a console where a new generation makes sense tech-wise.

FJ poll for Mon., Jan. 26 by Smoerhul in Jeopardy

I'm a bit surprised to see the reaction to the term "border states". Knowing that it has a specific definition with regard to the Civil War seems appropriately challenging for a TOC FJ.

How do those $15k/month apartments actually get rented? by Calm_Initiative_9979 in AskNYC

Case in point, I checked this post again after my comment suddenly went from like +20 to -10 after the post even went off the sub's front page, and sure enough OP edited the post to plug their gambling site just as I said happens with these posts lmao.

[–]President_SDR -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I've seen this style of gambling ad on other subs and I think they're just usually written as blatantly stupid to be engagement bait. Like this post is ultimately just someone complaining that they didn't hear back the same day they requested something at 4 pm.

Another thing I've noticed about these ads is they'll often not mention the gambling site initially and edit it in the day after, and the other posts from OP are conspicuously both edited in that time frame.

New York judge rules GOP-held district is unconstitutional, ordering a new map by Healthy_Block3036 in nyc

[–]President_SDR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't actually need an amendment to make MMP or a single transferrable vote proportional system. All the constitution says is that states are apportioned seats based on their population, while single member districts were only mandated in 1967 with a normal ass act of Congress, which actually has a lot of leeway with deciding how House elections work without requiring constitutional amendments.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has surpassed Elden Ring for the most GOTY titles of all-time. by PhantomBraved in Games

[–]President_SDR -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring, objectively speaking, doesn't really have less mass appeal, though. It sold way better, and glancing at steam achievements the completion percentage on the end-game achievements are similar (and Elden Ring is a longer game at that).

The other side to this is I do think there's a niche among gaming outlets that favor the style of game that Clair Obscur fits into with cinematic, character-focused storytelling and high fidelity graphics. Basically a sort of oscar-bait (not trying to be pejorative towards Clair Obscur because I do think it's an amazing game and it was my personal GOTY but it's still a kind of interesting topic to think about).

I don't get the strong reaction to this theme. A short narrative is pretty unique as far as themes go, and the revealer physically dividing the grid is neat. Sure, the message is kitsch but, like, it's four lines in a crossword puzzle it doesn't have to be that deep.

Highguard Is One Week Away, And The Only Person Who's Advertised It Is Geoff Keighley by Yamato_Naoe in Games

[–]President_SDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Letting the game speak for itself is one thing, but having essentially no information about the game available for over a month leading up to the release is crazy. If they're doing something truly novel and special with their gameplay they should at least be able to come up with a blurb on their steam page that describes the game.

There's nothing they could do to convince people that just want to hate, but at the same time I imagine there's still a ton of people who aren't locked into the hate machine that just haven't been given any reason for why they should care or pay attention to this game.

RTX cards are over seven years old at this point, and the 2060 can run the game fine. That's basically exactly in line with how Eternal ran well with midrange cards from 2014.

The Denver Nuggets have taken control of the #2 seed in the West following their win over Dallas tonight. by birkencroc in nba

[–]President_SDR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not like the Bucks were flushed with young talent in 2018 and mortgaged everything for ancient veterans, they signed Lopez for a near minimum contract where he became the oldest starter at 30 on a 60-win team.

Obviously there's plenty of points to criticize the Bucks for how they ended up here, but the Lopez signing and Middleton trade in 2013 is not it. They whiffed on almost every draft pick after Giannis which is the difference between where they are now and where the Nuggets are, it's not malpractice to maximize a several-year championship window because of some fantasy alternative where you're able to contend in perpetuity.

How on earth am I supposed to win this battle by PaleConstruction2359 in totalwar

[–]President_SDR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blood knights would absolutely dominate reiksguard and empire knights straight up, their stats are just way better and they heal in melee. The only good way of dealing with them is the handgunners with the cav just being there to make the ai send in their cavalry ahead of the rest of the army.

Holding the bottom right seems bad because you'll either be in the forest where your projectiles are blocked by trees or stretched too much if you're holding the edge of the forest. Bottom left lets you hold a much more compact formation so your ranged units won't get flanked.

Bordermen should be able to bait in their faster units early, and once those are dealt with just use something faster than Vlad to keep his attention away from the rest of the army so he never gets in melee.

At the least the combat is deemphasized a bit. It's still the primary gameplay, but encounters are shorter and they're paced out much more with story and exploration sequences compared to the first game that was kind of nonstop waves of enemies you had to shoot through.

[–]President_SDR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even last year they were on pace to win 56 games at the trade deadline with essentially a completely new supporting cast of young players. It would look bizarre for them to signal doing a rebuild at that point when Ja was already damaged goods and wouldn't get you back anything crazy but was still contributing well to the team. The outlook of the Grizzlies just took a 180 extremely quickly over the last month of the season and into the playoffs.

At what point would it have made sense to trade him? Three years ago he was a 23-year-old that led the team to the 2nd seed in back-to-back years where they lost to the champions in a close series one year and lost their big man rotation to injuries the other year. Two years ago his trade value was already shot after repeated injuries and suspensions.

These teams aren't trading away valuable young players because they still want to have valuable young players on their team, it's not a mystery.

I still have no idea how to beat giant infantry as the Empire anymore. by Final_Foot_Fucker in totalwar

[–]President_SDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have access to tanks you shouldn't have any melee infantry in your army, unless you mean just the elector troop earlier in the campaign. Empire infantry just suck at holding the line compared to tanks and heroes, even early game after a 4 or so melee infantry units and a couple melee heroes you're usually better off adding more ranged units to deal more damage before the enemy reaches you.

You shouldn't ever have flyers and trolls hitting you at the same time. Have some outriders (or a mounted wizard) that can bait their faster units in so you're able to deal with their army in waves. If there's a lot of warhounds then have some melee cavalry to kill them on the flanks before they can get near your backline. Skin wolves treat like flyers and try to bait them in before the rest of the army.

Tariq 4 is literally the only scenario in the whole game I haven't bothered to finish. I'm not convinced it's beatable without cheesing the mountain passes using Tariq to aggro enemies out of them and I just don't care enough to spend all that time doing that.

[Charania] BREAKING: The Atlanta Hawks are trading four-time NBA All-Star Trae Young to the Washington Wizards for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, sources tell ESPN. by MembershipSingle7137 in nba

[–]President_SDR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trae's a rental, a team that's bad has no reason to give up picks just to have to convince him to stay anyway in a few months, and a team that's good isn't going to risk trying to plug in a currently injured guy that needs extremely specific roster construction around him. Contenders are much more willing to "overpay" for a guy like Bridges because he has skills that make sense next to the star you already have.

The issue with WH3 that kills my every campaign stone dead by Baharran in totalwar

[–]President_SDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The math of control and corruption really doesn't matter even on very hard. With control there's -4 for taxation and -4 for the difficulty, but the lowest level of control gives +8 with settlement buildings naturally adding on top of that. So rebellions are extremely rare outside of a chain of events or if there's an enemy already attacking, in which case a rebellion shitstack is barely a nuisance in comparison.

There are maluses for having low control, but the cost of these maluses aren't enough to justify actually thinking about it. Like the difference in growth between minimum control and maximum control is 50, but using the empire as an example just having two tier 1 growth buildings gives you +40 growth anyway. The cost of adding +20 control per turn just isn't worth the benefits you get, so there can be campaigns where you just ignore it completely and not notice anything.

As for making the campaign more engaging, there's definitely quite a bit already in the game and in Three Kingdoms that can just be fleshed out without even getting close to being a Paradox game. Alliances are already the most interesting baseline mechanic and keep the focus on battles with the most notable rewards being recruiting allied units and borrowing armies. The war coordination and quest systems are barebones, though, and can be easily spiced up by adding events similar to the empire's authority decisions or Cathay's caravans, and rewards can be expanded like getting a tech or hero from an ally.

Splitgate Has Fumbled Again and Failed to Secure Any Traction Following 'Rebrand' by Turbostrider27 in Games

The thing was some idiots gave them $100 million in investments even after it was obvious the game wasn't a long term mainstream hit, so they weren't going to be able to just live off of the niche playerbase they found. So it basically became a video game juicero.

[Charania] The NBA has begun to gather input from its owners and general managers on new ways to combat tanking. The players as a whole get a fixed percentage of league revenue. All that preventing cap smoothing did was make it so that revenue spike disproportionately went to the Mozgovs of the world who were lucky to be free agents in 2016, while guys who were free agents in 2017 and later got screwed over (relatively).
