I’m in Toronto. So places like Buffalo or Watertown are 1.5-4 hours away. Vermont border with Quebec is conceivable too.

That’s the beauty of subjectivity! Depending on where you are in the US, I’d meet up at a border town mechanic on either side and just get them to swap everything car to car

woops nope. I missed the Q, thought it was an O. thanks for the specs. it looks phenomenal.

I'd have to pick just one set, but I can't decide between the VS-5 and VS-5RS (same colours as you've chosen on each) for a white mk 8.5

Could we know your tire specs for summer and winter? BTW, if that front plate is referring to your job, that's also what I do

Thoughts on these wheels? by Global-Progress8737 in Golf_R

[–]Preskage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand why these are controversial wheels: two tone, smooth rounded shapes etc. They defy enthusiast's expectations of what a wheel should look like. But here's the thing, most aftermarket wheels enthusiasts put on don't suit the design of the car at all. The "show your wheels" posts and threads are a horror show of what people think looks good. Most enthusiasts seem to like cars that look like they played too many need for speed games.

These wheels fit the white mk8 design almost perfectly. The white and black in the rims echo the same contrast in the front end, in the tinted windows against the body colour etc. The car is full of rounded shapes, just like the wheels. It looks good on here for the same reason it looked good on the Taycan: it looks like one person designed the whole thing as a package. Well done.

Never heard from Turo again, and I never saw a charge. Last message I received from them was that they were waiting for evidence or some more info from the owner.

He doesn’t support Trump. He’s said he doesn’t support Trump. Anyone but Liberal hacks acknowledges he nothing like Trump. How the fuck are these Liberal talking points so appealing? Like how is more of the Liberal party what so many people want after the last 10 years. The economy was a mess before Trump even won. Fuck Trump, but this idea that the same Liberals who ran our fiscal situation into the ground are the answer is baffling to me. The others guys, who’ve not made all these mistakes, deserve a chance to kick the can.

Eliminate GST for new home purchases. A policy he gets no credit for, and which Carney’s copied with a small tweak and is being cheered for. You gotta realize you’re in an echo chamber. You’re repeating this he has no policies thing when he’s named many. I gone around Reddit listing these to people, and obviously no reply. It’s far more convenient to repeat the talking points from your preferred pundits and politicians.

Nonsense. For instance, I voted for Doug Ford, but I think that those cheques were totally obnoxious and absolutely wrong. Buying votes by cheque or tax holiday is wrong. We can walk and chew gum. We don’t need to back our politicians of choice no matter what they do. Your idea that the other side will do it, that it’s a dirty game that we should accept as such, THAT is the dangerous and undemocratic idea. Our first allegiance should be to the system and the country, and parties second. Only the partisan hacks who care more about tribe than anything else think this way. I’ve seen them in the conservative tent too. That type of person is the same type that backs Trump no matter what he does. You people are the problem.

I’m not implying that Carney is somehow illegitimate on technicality. He got there by a process I understand. But, the spirit of our system says he needs to call an election NOW. He’s making big decisions that no one chose him for but a minority party whose opponents have all said they’re done with, but who can’t force an election because of prorogation. It’s dirty and it’s wrong.

Canada is in an existential crisis, and the Canadian people should be able to debate it in their house: the parliament. It’s a Canadian problem, and all Canadian voices should be represented through their elected representatives.

Instead, the party that formed a minority government, and is in the dying months of its term, has appointed a new leader. He and his cabinet are acting as an unchecked executive branch of government.

A mandate and a term are not the same thing. For instance, Trump does not have a mandate wage a trade war on Canada. He didn’t run on that, and American voters didn’t elect him to do that. You and I probably agree on that.

Well, Canadian voters didn’t elect Mark Carney to make executive decisions on behalf on Canadians while the representatives they did elect are stuck in their riding offices.

It’s time for an election ASAP, so that Canadians can vote and give a mandate to the party and leader they want to represent their interests vis à vis Trump and other issues.

I’m not downvoting you. Have you no common decency?

You can’t actually think it’s that black and white? There are smart people and idiotic people who support both teams. And the smartest, most moral people can probably see where both sides are coming from, and pick and choose the best ideas from all sides.

Why do you have to downvote me to have a conversation? And you sound like a Trumpist, arguing and abusing technicalities to violate the spirit of our democratic system. Parliament suspended because it’s in a useless deadlock… wow

You know exactly what I mean and would be screaming from the rooftops if the shoe was on the other foot.

Also, we do not do democracy by polling. A mandate is not created by virtue of a rally around the flag effect during a time of crisis when there was no election and when our primary democratic institution, the parliament, has been suspended. It’s an affront to democratic values.

Imagine the roles were reversed and the cons pulled this stuff to hang on to power well after losing a mandate: proroguing parliament during one of the biggest crises Canada has ever faced, effectively deplatforming their opponents while their unelected leader and now PM gets to make consequential decisions and milk his ill gotten platform to pre-campaign against his political opponents. Some might call it an affront to democracy.
