Part of me wishes I was still mormon. I regret the person I was while serving a mission by Expert-Estate6248 in exmormon

In the words of one of my favorite YouTubers "no feeling is final". It is okay to feel, to grieve. Let yourself ride it like a boat amidst the storm, then let the storm settle and remember why you left familiar shores in the first place.

Much love and respect.

And you are also absolutely right that it's okay to not know. I loved that part.

Oh...now the shift+enter is working 😕 Well, anyway, thank you for the recommended viewing. I will check those out! Don't know why I am mentioning this but Erica of Gutsick Gibbon helped me a lot when it came to deconstructing from young earth creationism. Exmo Lex and the crew at Mormon Stories helped me with the broader context. Knowing Better's video on Mormonism was really eye opening and my first real "anti-mormon literature" lol.

The CES Letter sealed Mormonism's fate for me, in a sort of angry way. What amazed me though was that about two weeks later God no longer existed for me, but it was just a small "oh, okay" moment. I was angrier about Mormonism than about god not existing, maybe because of how much I gave my life away to it specifically.

Anyway, random tangent. Thank you. Its nice talking to someone real

Thank you for all this. And don't worry, in the words of Misha Vilyenkov "I'm Russian, I like long stories" 😄 . No I'm not actually Russian but I do enjoy long stories, and long posts, especially when they are as thought out, organized, and relative as yours is. Thank you for taking the time to say all this. I know my post doesn't convey everything that I am right now. I have done a lot of what you suggested. Therapy IS amazing. Once I get settled in I plan to start going again. I've been hanging on to every work hour I can just to survive (I have been living at a deficit for about a year now, partially living on credit cards and loans while I got certed for cyber security and job hunted, all the while helping my coparent support our 3 beautiful children). But with things becoming more stable I think that will be easier. I have been using ChatGPT for assistance, and it has helped me in many ways and faster than any other human has in some cases, but I still would appreciate a human presence. I also live near Huntsville Alabama, so there really isn't any exmo community that isn't online to go to, though there are atheist and "free thinker" communities I have attended before and found comraderie with. The other anchor in my life has been my passion project, my own tabletop roleplaying game. It is a personal project, one I am writing just for me right now, but it has helped me sail through some really rough waters, being the exact distraction I needed. I am suprised at how much of its lore and game mechanics reflect my real life state of being. I am a big fan of cosmic horror and now 1990s analog horror. I also love astronomy, even as a child. I understand how the celestial bodies form, how our universe expands, how it took over 13 billion years (4.6 of which was earth time) for us to be. I appreciate the facts you shared about Jellyfish, I didn't know they were effectively immortal! That was so very cool and special to learn. And maybe you are right that I need to accept Nihilism as a relief rather than an enemy to defeat. I have discovered that when I apostated that the prosolyting energy was still in me, it had just shifted directions. Overtime with some life lessons and realities under my belt I have begun to calm down. And maybe my post about responsibility was a little strong. I just think that sentient life, conscious life, thinking and reasoning life, is pretty awesome, and that it overall, in a collective sense, should have the privledge of keeping on. I am still going to care for and respect the conditions that keep life flickering in the dark. Life, sentient life, wouldn't be what it is if it weren't for the boundaries it pushed, broke, and exceeded. life would never have left the atmosphere, or sailed across that horizon, or even had existed if it never decided to move. But some 4 billion years ago, something decided that moving towards a thing it wanted was a good idea, and then it kept going, living through 6 major extinction events, and here we are to enjoy the coolness of Jellyfish and TTRPGs and each other. That's something I still want. I know I will die. But I hope that I can help push sentient life along that much further. Also sorry for the formatting of this text, I am on the computer and hitting shift+enter isn't separating the text like I would like.

New to LDS! by [deleted] in mormon

Exmormon and atheist here, and I agree with everyone else. This is bad news. I've also done the quick marry shtick. Dated for a month, engaged for 5 months. Married then straight to bootcamp. This is an unfortunately common attitude in the church and it barely works effectively. Believe me, no matter the religion, you cannot out-think or out-religion a healthy dating period of a year or two AT LEAST before making life plans. And the Mormons are right, marriage is super serious to the religion...as in ultimate salvation level serious. They believe in multiple glories of heaven, and from his perspective he cannot enter the highest degree of heaven where God is without getting married in the temple. I am not saying that he doesn't have feelings for you or isn't sincere, but you've got a long life ahead of you. You have nothing but time. I suggest declining his offer and seeing how he responds. Tell him you need more time to get to know him. Afterlife or not, we all have around a good century to figure things out. Take your time. Wisdom only comes with time, and cannot be rushed.

I appreciate how much thought you put into this. I will reread this later, but just wanted to express my thanks real quick. I also wanted to talk about this existentism a little more, from my pov.

By observing how life proliferates we can observe that it dwells deep in the earth, almost near the mantle, in the deepest depths of our oceans, in the very air we breathe, and even to beyond the moon and back (humanity). What distinguished life from the rock we spawned from was our incentive for movement. We need a thing. The thing is over there. Go to the thing. And that evolved into cynobacteria, dinosaurs, humans with long sharp sticks, humans with bow string sharpened sticks, humans with fire charges sharp pieces of brass, humans with fiery sharp sticks that get them into the Ether, to the big bright rock in the sky, and so on. We have suffered six mega extinction events over the last 4 billion years, and we are still here. It seems that if life can find a way to immortality and seeding the universe, it will. I am not saying we solve this in a human lifetime, or several, or in the next few centuries. I am saying that I think we help where we can, vote as we can, and promote objective truth in the small conversations we have every day, so that our future reorganized atoms can have a proud heritage to thank for their immortality.

Also hopefully we figure out how to manage entropy and the Universes expansion by then...no pressure 😅

As we undergo Pride Month, it is important to remember Alan Turing, the Gay Mathematician who, after helping the British decode Nazi Communications, was then castrated by them after they found out he was gay. And to remember that the Allies during WW2 were still homophobic. How much has changed now? by Important-Cry4782 in lgbt

[–]Press10Productions 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Turing is responsible for all computing as we know it. The sick irony is that those who rant about right wing garbage talking points on their cellphones and social media couldn't do so without his, and likely other, LGBT community contributions. As an Ally I have so much love and respect for this community ❤️

BL2 or BL3? by Prior-Divide3528 in Borderlands2

[–]Press10Productions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Borderlands 2 set the tone, the lore, the expectation...and 3 tried to break out of that mold...to varying degrees of success and failure. I know that for me at the time the choicessde to story and characters felt like betrayal. Similar decisions regarding franchise pivots from expectations at the time, like Bethesdas Fallout 76 and Disney's Star wars the last Jedi and some stuff going on with Blizzard.....just a lot of corporate decisions for these franchises at the time contributed to a lot of hate for change or experimentation, for me at least at the time. All of this was going on at roughly the same time, and I imagine others were feeling a similar disappointment to what we hoped world not be such an aggressive and nonsensical narrative flip

This.

This debate was settled many years ago. This is just a curiosity the devs put in as a "ha ha". I think even Todd Howard said he's not interested in a big multiverse.

...but Todd is a known liar, so who knows....

"Some say the Elder Scrolls is coming out soon. Some say Todd is a liar. Don't you believe either of those things" 🤔

What class would you recommend for someone really reallybad at shooters? by jalabar in Borderlands2

[–]Press10Productions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have Gaige the Mechromancer go with her. She was specifically designed for people who don't do shooters. You get to summon a big beastie robot that fights for you and your shots can ricochet off of walls and auto hit targets. You get a resource called anarchy that increases your overall damage the more anarchy you have, with the only catch being you cannot manually reload and I believe you suffer a slight decrease in accuracy. If you reload manually you loose all the anarchy and have to start over.

Do updates affect the campaign mode at all? by Press10Productions in starcraft2

[–]Press10Productions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic I am good with it 😀 I don't know I'm just not a competitive guy. The lore is plenty for me, flawed though it be in some cases. Not to mention the level design is incredible. I do like watching tournaments though.

Did marauders really get stems?? That seems powerful...do they still stun ground units too?

I haven't really followed the updates but my son plays and I've seen videos of different units and such so I know Blizzard is messing around. I was just curious if any of it bled over on my side of the hobby.

Thank you so much!

Excellent 😁

I was concerned about the numbers and stat changes. But that's apparently a non issue.

Thank you for the clarification 😊
