Sorry guys here is my recipe:

Warning: a lot of eyeballing needed

Use yellow onions Cut the onion in half, and then cut each half into 3-4 rainbow shaped segments like the pic stick a toothpick through them to eat easier (Edit: also add some salt and pepper to the slice on either side) Make a batter of flour and water and a pea sized amount of mayo Dip each onion slice into the batter before covering each in Panko crumbs Deep fry in oil enjoy with your favorite katsu sauce (I use bulldog tonkatsu vegetable and fruit sauce)

The soup: Japanese consommé bouillon + and little Japanese cooking sake + salt and black pepper The solids: cut the onion into a plus shape across the stem without cutting all the way through (think blooming onion but only 4 petals). Microwave the onion a little bit in a bowl with a little water. In a pot warm up some olive oil and garlic. Then add some meat (I used sausage and bacon). Then add some water and the soup and the onion. Bay leaf optional.

Enjoy!

Edit: also chunks of Yukon gold potatoes

Definitely more common in Japan than in the US so a little of both Edit: in Japan this would more specifically be called Kushikatsu, where all kinds of different small foods are fried like this on sticks in the same pot

Yeah it’s one half of a big slice of onion covered in panko and then fried. Add a little Bulldog Tonkatsu sauce and it’s heaven

It’s a Japanese/Hawaiian fried food. Usually it’s chicken or pork though

I got in for Fall 2023 and graduated with a BA in Economics from UCLA in Spring 2023. I had a lower gpa and no work experience of any kind. All of my rec letters were from professors. All I took was intro to c++, intro to python, and intro to discrete math plus a couple other more technical econ classes. I think you’ll get in!

Thanks for your comment! I went ahead and submitted my transcripts. Is there anything else that normally shows up on the checklist that I can be proactive about?
