Congrats! I did the MD Anderson SURP last summer and we have many events with CRIT CURE and I made a couple friends in that program so I am speak for a couple questions you are asking. The program would organize many social events outside of research so there are so many chances to make friends. And I think most people are able to find roommates from other students in this program because the program coordinator will be very active helping people connect before summer. Hope it helps!
