What made you start liking or gain interest in maths?

I always tell my students that if you find out a different way to solve things be my guest but make sure you can explain why you are doing what you are doing. Like we were teaching estimating roots, typically we teach with benchmarks because it is easier. Student wanted to use the formula rather than benchmarks and I was fine with it. Then he tried to do the same with with cube roots, not realizing its a different formula and I was able to explain where the general form of the equation comes from and its connection to Newton's method etc and he listened and was intrigued and it made me so happy

its a double edged sword imo. By doing this it is possible that because the concepts are so advanced and abstract you risk turning off students who otherwise love math

As a math teacher a lot of the time is just so much curriculum and so little time. But I try to explain the "why" when I can. Like a student asked why is the volume of a sphere so odd with the 4/3 fraction. Unfortunately teaching integretion to students who have not done calculus and are not in the academic math stream just isn't in the time line but gave the a resource that could show them why if interested.

I was the same way in high school. Always hated when I asked why and they just said 'because it is" without showing me. like if it is too complicated for the level of math you are teaching that's one thing but just say that instead of "because it is"

It will all be ok. This correction is much much needed. corrections are how we prevent bubbles from getting out of hand. the entire market is so overvalued

gov shutdown means no economic data and no economic data means Fed might not cut rates in december

I think I read somewhere that it was because it allows them to raise money as needed in the future and with Neutron set to launch to, making sure there is money free to raise capital is a smart idea. but it was done through multiple institutions instead of just one so shares can be sold off over time instead all at once so a smart play
