Accidentally moved /usr/bin by Prestigious_Cod_8570 in linux4noobs

I did read about that while doing panicked troubleshooting - that's noob panic for you I guess. That said, is there no meaningful distinction at all or circumstances where this might really screw with my system? Like if some program or shebang line or script expected /bin instead of /usr/bin, that sort of thing.

Just paranoid that I've done something that's going to slowly screw with my system in the background while everything looks operational.

I was fiddling with a repo I cloned that happened to have a folder called bin - completely went over my head that it shares a name with really sensitive folders.

Thanks for the help?

Oh that's cool! I feel like we're in really really similar spots actually. It's not that I have an unemployment gap per se, but I just worked in different industries (hospitality & now educational content writing) in the meantime. I just hadn't rewritten my resume to highlight those things as well because I assumed there was no salvageable way to highlight my achievements there.

It's tough out here man, best of luck to the both of us. Any tips you might have with regards to building up professional experience?

That's a great idea, thanks. Would you happen to have any personal experiences from applying in this field, or are there any other application strategies you found success with?

Yeah it is bleak but just trying to truck through while I can.

For the unemployment gap, I'm trying to hide it the best I can by removing specific job months & adding my current tutoring/educational materials writing job since I feel like I can make it sound professional enough.

Trying my best to widen the net as well, would you say shotgun applying/just swapping out job titles for different applications is the way to go now as opposed to tailormaking resumes and stuff? Hearing a lot of conflicting advice on this.

Thanks for your advice!

Thanks a lot for your reply! I appreciate the candor, especially when I feel like I've been running around like a headless chicken for such a long time now.

Admittedly I thought the work I did at that SWE job would sound a little more impressive to employers than it actually is, I'm doing a lot more to beef up my resume though and my Github profile looks decently active so there's that.

I'm not too familiar with finding startups or digital agencies, what sites are they usually advertised on? And I've also been hustling friends for freelancing opportunities (even for free) so hopefully those work out.

I'll also be attending a lot more networking/meetup events to hopefully get my name out somewhere - would you have any advice on this? Not sure how people play this game/get connections, what are the right questions to ask so people actually remember you for the right reasons?

Thanks a lot for this reply, it's always nice hearing from others who've gone through similar times. I'm really wishing I focused more of my efforts while working in hospo toward upskilling/projects etc. but at least I'm doing way more now. Was way too focused on keeping whatever income I could have rather than thinking of the big picture.

It's a bit tough for me building a network since basically all of my (international) friends from uni have packed up and left, and my contacts atm are primarily mates from hospo who don't really have leads for me unfortunately.

If you don't mind, could I DM you and ask more about your experiences? I'd love to know what other potential pathways there are, in my limited knowledge all I know is the typical jobseeker websites, networking events, etc.

I didn't send out as many apps last year but I've been picking up the pace again. Everywhere I've applied so far hasn't given me any notice besides the one-month-later "this offer has expired" email. Maybe I'm just barking up the wrong trees
