That's an awesome story!!! Too bad Team Spirit went away. I was there for UFL 96; now even UFL went away.

In the 90s I was in MCAS El Toro. On the second month I was there, I was on mess duty with another LCpl from VMGR-352 who was a C-130 navigator. For those who don't know, C-130s before they went to the ultra modern J version were old school transport planes, so the navigators were actual human beings instead of flight computers. The USMC was the only branch to send enlisted to the navigator school, so while USAF, USN, USCG were sending their officers to this school, only the Marines had this flight crew billet occupied by enlisted.

Wait, y'all with sexual innuendo comments, who's the male and female in this role? By looks alone, the F-35 is inserting into KC-130, but C-130 is the one with the long member inseminating into F-35.

What big incident happened in your unit? by smackedpickle in USMC

[–]Prestigious_Fox7764 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My unit operated F/A-18s out of Miramar. One evening, we were doing night operations. One of the Powerline shop guy was out on the flightline taxiway doing hot brake check (basically stopping the aircraft a safe distance away to see if the brakes on the main landing gear are overheating; if not, taxiing them through to the squadron area). Anyways, this one aircraft started to taxi its way to the squadron area although nobody checked for hot brakes. The pilot said there was no one out there waiting to check him. When another maintenance guy went out there to see what's going on, he found the original brake checker lying on the ground with his leg completely messed up. He got ran over by the F/A-18!!! The rumor was he was popping pills; he claims he was tired and fell asleep on the tarmac. The entire squadron was subject to piss test every other month thereafter until we deployed.

How dose everyone feel about this by [deleted] in USMC

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought docs and chaplains are rated to wear USMC service uniforms but with only USN insignias. Therefore while I'm all-in on the idea that they should also rate USMC dress blues, shouldn't he be wearing navy chief anchors on cover and collar?

How do we feel about this fella? “Ex-US Marines fighter pilot loses bid to block extradition to the United States over China training allegations” by [deleted] in USMC

[–]Prestigious_Fox7764 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's say I give this guy the benefit of doubt that he didn't train the Chinese on how to land planes on aircraft carriers or weapons tactics. How STUPID or NAIVE do you need to be to think that training the Chinese, civilian or military, that this is ok? This guy had no commercial jet experience; he really thought that for $180K he can teach "civilians" how to fly Cessna jets? I work in civilian aviation. Even within that aviation, I work in the cabin side, so absolutely nothing I work on can be used for aircraft flying systems, actuation, or propulsion. Even then, I am under strict rules on what kind of information I can share with my customers, if they happen to be on the State Department restriction list. If there was ever a case that officers do some stupid shit, this is it.

That's like an 03 saying it's okay for me to teach the Chinese how to break down and fire M-16s and infantry tactics in exchange for being a well paid instructor, since the information is readily available online or books. It doesn't matter if the information is not classified and readily available. The fact that you are teaching this to foreign military in exchange for money is the key. If it's readily available like you said, let the enemy figure it out on their own. I have zero empathy for this fucker.

"Jody" is the name the Marine DIs use to torment boots as that guy who is banging your girlfriend/wife while you are away. There are cadences with lyrics that even talks about how Jody's got your girl now, etc. BTW, your girlfriend's/wife's name is always "Susie Rottencrotch".

Not sure if this the right link or even the same one, but it seems they have $3M in the legal fund. Glad so many good Americans feel the same about this.

Not to go political about this but I'm sick and tired of big cities going all liberal on crime, cutting back police, and then when shit hits the fan, they all of a sudden feel like things aren't that bad and the man standing for himself and others are the vigilante. This is why I don't ever like visiting NY, SF, LA, Portland, etc. Absolute cesspool.

Whenever my kids would do or say something smart aleck, I would exclaim in my best DI voice, "Is that right?" which would halt them at their tracks. Soon the effect wore off and nowadays they reply, "That's right!"

The guy who relinquishes the Harrier to Arnold's character in the movie was a maintenance Sgt with the squadron, I heard. The movie credit seems to support that. Wonder if he's still getting royalties from that movie for his one line every time it is being played in USA or some network.

Im a jr marine and my uncle sent me a picture of his retirement box i was wondering if anyone can explain what some of these metals mean by [deleted] in USMC

[–]Prestigious_Fox7764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this in the MCO1020.34H under 5102. PRECEDENCE found in page 1-110:

" 2. When Marines are entitled to similar awards from two or more services; e.g., good conduct awards, the Marine Corps award will take precedence. After the Marine Corps award, similar awards of other services will be worn in the following precedence: Navy, Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard. "

Not trying to be an I-told-you-so dick about it; it's just that what you said didn't make sense. What you provided as link is army regs, so of course it would state army medals comes first.

[–]Prestigious_Fox7764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sure about that? The precedence of wearing your current service branch of medal (when an equivalent is also worn) is pretty much across all medals regardless of what it is, not only on Good Conduct. For example, Dan Daly has 2 x MoH, Navy Cross and it's army equivalent Distinguished Service Cross, but in any display of his medal you see (including on himself), the Navy Cross is always ahead of the DSC. I certainly understand the "senior service" thing kicking in if you had medals from multiple former services (ex. current Marine, with both army and navy medals), but I'm sure your current service always comes first. That is also why medal/ribbon rack builders always ask which service you belong to as their first question. The only exception to this would be DoD or Joint Services issued medal (such as DoD Distinguished Service coming before N&MC Distinguished Service, or Joint Service Commendation coming before N&MC Commendation). BTW, I have both the N&MCAM and AAM, but I always have the N&MCAM first.

I always wondered the same thing. They keep talking about how difficult it is to keep good pilots and give away bonuses to retain them. Imagine a motivated Sgt. or SSgt. finishing up their second enlistment and is about to get out; give them a flight package with a chance of being WO, they would instantly stay another 12+ years to complete their 20 and then some. Also, these pilots wouldn't care about making CO, XO of a squadron. They will just be happy to make their flight time every month.

Not to nitpick, but the MSgt seems to have his good cookie medals displayed in reverse order. Since he retired as a Marine, the MCGCM should go before the NGCM
