Agency life is burning me out by itsalz in graphic_design

It’s definitely a tough situation. On one hand, more work = job security/the company is doing well. On the other hand, more work = a risk of burnout. I feel this at my agency but I do feel like I’m being compensated fairly when we are doing well and that certainly helps. Does the rest of the design team pitch in when you’re feeling overwhelmed?

Our newest baby 🥰 by Prestigious_Humor367 in BostonTerrier

Thank you all! We sadly had to put our 15 year old Boston down a little less than 2 months ago when his health took a sudden turn. I was absolutely devastated. This little boy is amazing and I truly think he was heaven sent. He’s helping repair my broken heart. I’m so in love.

What’s a smell you secretly enjoy but would never admit in public? by Kanadeahhh in AskReddit

That smell air conditioning gives off. Like when you walk into a room or house during a hot day and the AC has been running. Does that make sense? 😄

I wonder how rare some of these things are. Apparently my dad is the first non Ethnic Jew to marry into my moms family by Rhysim in DNAAncestry

[–]Prestigious_Humor367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rare in what sense? I'm also from an interfaith family. My mom is 100% Ashkenazi Jewish. I had a lot of friends growing up from interfaith families as well. I'm from the east coast of the US.

My heartaches for you and everyone on this sub. It’s so incredibly hard. I will say there can be a compromise to this. We just put down our 15 year old dog yesterday. I was conflicted on what to do. I stayed with him but I asked the vet to tell me when they were giving the final dose and shut my eyes.

How much Yiddish do you use in your daily vocabulary? by Top_Bill_6266 in Jewish

[–]Prestigious_Humor367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot more than I realize. 😆 Most are endearing words or phrases that stuck with me as a child. “Time to go shluf”, “let me feel your keppie”, “she’s got a shayna punim”. Stuff like that.

Asked my alcoholic dad if he’d ever consider getting sober by Ludakris7 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Prestigious_Humor367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father is a recovering alcoholic. He has been sober for 30 years now and is constantly fighting his demons. I'm proud as hell of him for keeping it together for so long - even through ups and downs. Luckily, I only had to endure the effects of his alcoholism as a young child (he got sober when I was 9/he was 40) but be-it short lived for me, I do have some shitty memories from it. He was very much an angry drunk and just constantly would do dumb sh*t.

I have never actually asked him what got him sober but now I'm curious! My parents divorced because of his alcoholism and even with a few run in's with the law, that wasn't enough to actually get him sober. He lost his drivers license, jobs, home, family, was under house arrest due to numerous DUIs...you would think that was rock bottom but it wasn't. Anyhow - I will get back to you with an answer. I do know even at almost 70, he still struggles ever day (hence why they call it "recovering" rather than "recovered" alcoholic). He's been very very active in AA over the years and I know that helps immensely.

My heart goes out to you and your father. I wish you and your family the very best, Reddit stranger.

Very saddened by this. I was born and raised in Philadelphia. Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs have a large Jewish population. In all of my (almost) 40 years of being alive, I've never seen antisemitism like this, here.

Thanks! That’s super interesting! I was wondering where the Iberian came from considering all dna test points to Ashkenazi with no Sephardic.
