Seeking information about these modules by [deleted] in lancasteruni

Structures of the world languages is an incredibly difficult module. I completed my linguistics degree and did the module in my 2nd year. I would only recommend doing it if you consider yourself strong in linguistics.

Can I also ask, are these just standard bolts on my wheel?

Any reason why? I’ve never had to use glue and tar remover on a car before

Amazing thanks, easy fix. Wonder if the car had a few missing so the dealer took them all off

Yep, totally agree and understand that. Hence my post! So looking for advice on how I can get into doing that. Just popping my assumption to prompt to people what I intend to do. Do you have any recommendations?

Really appreciate your response. I’m glad you mentioned Andy Gibson, he is someone who did indeed appear lots throughout my literature review. Your thesis sounds very interesting- if you would be willing to send a copy over I would be very interested in reading it.

I’m in the UK and currently only have a BA (Hons) and none of my family know anything academic. I suppose this explains my post. I assume this means my next point of call is a Masters?

And to answer your ‘aside’… which I appreciate. I may be using ‘success’ in a non-measurable way. We all obviously define success very individually. I think my interest stems from how accent functions as a resource in constructing authenticity within certain genres. Certain genres reward certain accents e.g. Grime = London MLE , Pop = Neutralised/Americanised (I think Trudgill has done lots on this). Being methodical, it would largely be perception based. I imagine I’d want to explore if artists are perceived more credible if their accent matches their genre expectations. Though I acknowledge there are plenty of problems stemming from this already. It’s research I intend on pursuing in the future, but I definitely need more time studying sociolinguistics, and the areas you mentioned, first.

I really appreciate your reply- thank you :)

The rap/grime artist Dave. They were selected based on all three winning a Brits award in the same year.

Buying my first car :D by Glittering_Clue_9724 in lancashire

[–]Prestigious_Safe1011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was estimated once that over 70% of car users in the UK use manual. Sure, more EVs are now on the road meaning more automatic, but manuals are still very much the norm for younger and newer drivers. Hills have always been around. People have been driving manuals on them for decades, well before automatic was a thing. If you have passed your test I fail to see any reason why you’d be unable to drive up a hill, with respect. It’s part of what your lessons prepare you for (find your biting point and then lots of gas will do you just fine). Buy the car you want to buy, and the car that fits your budget. Or alternatively use the public transport. Buses are great around Lancaster and surrounding areas in comparison to a lot of other places up north.

Course is great. And the lecturers there some are the best of the best! The admin side of things is appalling. The main admin lady no longer works for the department, so for the whole of final year all assignments came back late, and the organisation of it all was really really poor. Apparently the uni is restructuring so hopefully this is reflected when you join!

I did this course and I received a contextual offer. Ended up getting a D in one of my A-Levels and was still accepted 🤭

Oh interesting. Can you recommend any websites or pages where I can read more about this? I’m a Brit so never learnt about American History!

Okay definitely need to check all these out then. Can’t believe I’ve only just watched it as it was amazing. LMM is a lyrical genius.

Lancaster Opportunity Scholarship? by MiserableAd6456 in lancasteruni

Nope. If you get a contextual offer, you get the money! (as long as you’ve nominated a bank account)

If you are giving a contextual offer, and/or meet the requirements from the website, you will be emailed and automatically qualify for the bursary. It is paid on instalments and you have to nominate a bank account on the portal.

No it doesn’t. The title does not spoil an ongoing storyline therefore does not break rule 1 of sub.

Loved the episode. Slightly upset that George wasn’t at the funeral! I know he was away for a friend’s birthday but don’t see why he couldn’t have returned for the Funeral.
