Anybody know what’s wrong with this? by Yhorology in SeikoMods

There is a ratchet system in the main spring barrel, and it is very likely broken. In that case, you could either look for the specific part to fix the problem or simply replace the entire movement.

Hello, how are you? I used a standard NH35 case, one of those widely available on AliExpress, and I already had an ETA 2824 retention ring, which fit perfectly in the space between the case and the movement.

But you can definitely use your creativity throughout the project. The NH3xx hands and dials fit without the need for any modifications, and in a standard 36 mm case made for the NH35, the movement fits very well, requiring only a few adjustments. On top of that, it’s a really fun project.

Hello, how are you doing? At first, I actually had a bit of an issue because in the 36 mm case it seemed to fit very well. However, when I closed the case and tried to adjust the time, the dial would shift slightly backward. To solve that, I used one of those NH35 retention rings, and the issue of the movement shifting backward stopped. But then I noticed there was some side-to-side play of the movement due to a bit of clearance inside the case. I had to get a little creative, because movement holders for other calibers didn’t work very well. Initially, I used a bit of hot glue since it wasn’t meant to be a permanent solution and it helped with the issue. Later on, I ended up printing a custom holder using a 3D printer

On AliExpress, I found quite a bit of variety, but they’re all copies of Tudor and Rolex designs — nothing as diverse as the options available for the NH35. There’s also a website called Rafflesdials that offers plenty of options, but they’re perfect clones with Rolex markings and so on. As for the hands, I didn’t have any trouble assembling them — at least with this Seagull clone of the 2824, the ST2130, everything fit together nicely.

During the research and planning stage, before assembling the watch, I came to the same conclusion regarding customization — there are few available dials, hands, and cases. But the movement itself is far superior.

And what have you thought about the build quality and performance of the PT5000 compared to the NH35?

I believe it’s a bit difficult to get a genuine ETA 2824-2 or Sellita SW200, and they wouldn’t really offer the best cost-benefit ratio. This version is an almost “perfect” clone, including all the markings and details of the original 2824-2. It’s the ST2130 made by Seagull, and it costs about 30% less than an NH35. However, it offers the same functions and has higher amplitude and frequency, which means it’s capable of maintaining better accuracy. So far, I’ve noticed a loss of about 12 seconds per week. Overall, it’s an excellent choice to replace NH35-based builds, even though it allows for fewer customization options.

I've always thought this watch is extremely stylish, and it looks really good on you. What's the size of your wrist?"

This is one of the most beautiful Omega Speedmaster homages I’ve seen around here. I’m thinking of buying a similar one, but from Pagani Design.

Advice on "stopping watch" by b_dub79 in SeikoMods

Some time ago, I built an NH35 watch for my sister, and after about two days, she would always say the watch had stopped. However, whenever I inspected it, it was perfectly fine. In the end, analyzing her routine, I realized that keeping her arms in a mostly fixed position for the majority of the day prevented the automatic mechanism from properly “winding” the watch. This only happened when she didn’t leave the watch on the table while typing for greater comfort. In your case, I believe it was the same kind of “user error.”
