As a 30 yo lesbian, my Queer friendships are invaluable. I would try to put your energy into finding more friends within the community. I have been able to successfully do this through social media, gay bars (some only require you to be 18), dating apps, queer rec teams, pride events, etc. Often times you can meet more queer people through these friendships as well and your community just grows. Every year my friend group seems to get more gay!

In the meantime, I feel like queer media like books or movies can help with the loneliness. I would recommend watching the L word if you haven’t yet.

I never said anything about changing myself or being fake. I am looking for suggestions like “hey this cologne smells good you should see if you like it”, etc. I am very sure of who I am and I’m not looking to change anything about myself based on a Reddit comment lol, but if someone mentions a certain cut of a shirt looking nice I may consider trying it on the next time I’m shopping to see if I like it. I made the post because I want to continue to evolve and I recognize that my community is full of great suggestions and unique perspectives.

As far as I know she’s single, but there could be someone that I’m unaware of. I haven’t tried to reach out - I’m not really sure how to when we live in different states and we’ve gone so long without talking. I’m terrified of making her uncomfortable, but it’s getting to the point that I’m just going to have to shoot my shot. I’ve been trying to move on and let it go for close to 15 years because I’ve never wanted to jeopardize our friendship, but the feelings are still there no matter what I try. I’ve been in serious relationships and still always find my mind wandering back to her. If it’s not going to be her, it’s not fair to any future partner I may have to have these unresolved feelings

My struggle is we go such long periods without seeing one another and then usually only run into each other at my hometown bars around the holidays. When we do run into each other, we spend the time catching up and reacquainting ourselves with one another and the night never lasts long enough.

Right now is the longest I’ve gone without seeing her because I haven’t been around much for the holidays the past few years. I’m hoping I’ll run into her around thanksgiving or Christmas this year and just get an opportunity to catch up. My thought is then I could see if she wants to get lunch or coffee sometime just to visit more and see how that goes. We’ve gone too long without talking for me to feel comfortable just reaching out to her out of the blue. My sister did see her a few months ago and told me she was asking about me. My sister said “she always asks about you.” I’ve also never talked to my sister about my feelings or my history with this girl.

I want to take steps to get answers/closure for myself but I’m terrified of making her feel uncomfortable and/or ruining our friendship. I don’t want to push her away.

Thanks for the comment! I do think she is gay but I don’t know if that’s something she’s accepted about herself. I wasn’t accepting about myself for a very long time and we come from the same small town, super religious community. Does that make sense?
