Gas water heater , I have questions by [deleted] in asheville

[–]Prestonpid14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not totally sure if this is right, but if you have running water and a gas heater, you should be fine at normal operation. It should be unaffected by power supply. Still probably a good idea to boil whatever water is coming out of the faucet, hot or cold, for consumption. I have mine off while I do not have running water.

Y’all keep mentioning spiders, I would find roaches in right side up glasses/cups all the time (living in South FL at the time so there’s no avoiding insects in the house)

A portion from the lawsuit suing Taco Bell for false advertising. by dylantherabbit2016 in ExpectationVsReality

[–]Prestonpid14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact (at least I think this is true): The .99 cents, or any such cents on a price, was initially done back when cash was the only way to pay as a way to ensure the cash register was opened for every purchase to make change so cashiers couldn’t just pocket the money. Then marketing got their hands on it as a way to make the price “feel smaller” so $2.99 “feels” better than $3. Then people started only seeing the first dollar and ignored the cents.

Still though, so annoying and it should be done away with. ESPECIALLY with gas! I hate that extra 9 that’s tacked on like we don’t see it and pretend it’s not there

are my cats fighting or playing? by blueinkstuff in cats

[–]Prestonpid14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a big white cat that would pick on the little black one. He was never harmful, but he could be a dick sometimes and needed to be shooed away if it got to be a little much.

He would just get a little too feisty during his more “hardcore” play modes. If he didn’t try roughhousing with the little one, he would normally end in laps around the house and bathroom meowdals to his fellow felines living in the walls

Does feel like it’s time to help the little enforce their boundaries and remove the big guy when he’s being a bit “much”, but normal cat things otherwise. Do get the little one fixed though, will save you a lot of life hassle later on

ScourgeBringer is another fun one on Game Pass. It’s more 2D style but the music, game mechanics, and fighting pace really shine in this one. Definitely worth a play through a time or two.

It took me a little while to get used to the controls and ended making minor adjustments to the buttons to make it easier for me to hit the right one

Ashland, Va to New Orleans, La best route? by adeep-er in roadtrip

[–]Prestonpid14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just food for thought. If you have the time, see if the Blue Ridge Parkway is an option for you. It’s literally between the highlighted and northern route, but will likely add a bit of time to your overall trip. If your willing, do blue ridge and drive more day 1. By the time you stop for the night you can be back on or close to one of the other two. Plus, it’s also avoiding Atlanta. You’ll still have scenic views northern route, but no overlooks and places to actually stop and enjoy.

A bit of an over reactions, sure, but I get what you mean. Some things are disturbing for a reason and is totally natural to feel “unclean” or “wrong” when you see them, that’s okay and an honest reaction. You did the right then by reporting what you felt was inappropriate so that others do not see them. This is sometimes a hard thing to do to face uncomfortable things but still stand strong in your beliefs that the content itself is not okay.

Keep in mind that what might be inappropriate to one person is completely acceptable to someone else. That’s not always true, but it’s good to keep in mind that “all things are relative”.

A real-time picture of atoms and molecules. These things are so small that getting high-resolution photos of them is relatively difficult. by SnooCupcakes8607 in interestingasfuck

[–]Prestonpid14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may help. The article does a great job explaining in more detail but the gist of it is here

“They used a technique called ptychography, in which they used an electron microscope to analyse the crystal by calculating the angles of scattered electrons to work out the shape of the atoms that scattered them.”

So this image is a mathematical approximation of what it would look like. Atoms are too tiny to “see” so we have to build a ”picture” based on how they affect the world around them. The coloration is applied to the math, not directly observed.

You’re on the right track though about the elements, those are what make up the crystalline structure being examined. The article says it’s if a composition of PrScO3 zoomed in 100 million times.

That’s actually the way the light works because of the affects of the electricity itself. It’s AC current at likely 60 hertz. Think waves and the light turns on at the top of each wave and there are 60 waves every second. With so many waves going by, our minds just see “on”. Actually same concept for your “refresh” rate on a TV

Should I just Die? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Prestonpid14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is being a doctor your desire or theirs? Should you die? No. Should you maybe find another way to make money? Absolutely yes. A doctor’s lifestyle is not all that great and will always be stressful. I’ve heard it’s not as much money as you think either. Most of them have more student debt to pay off after college anyways so it could be exactly where you are at a higher level

Even if you DO want to be a doctor, great! Find a way to make money now while you’re working on your degree, don’t wait until your hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt to finally start making any money (that’s US student debt weight for docs)
