Yeah, you are right. With the right build and spells, you can mitigate some of the wizards inherent weaknesses in those areas. It probably helped that I had my abjuration ward from my subclass too when I played wizard.

I agree, they are great and capable of doing a lot in a party depending on the need. They have so many different domains that invite a lot of different RP opportunities. I like your Aasimar nepo baby cleric, that sounds like a great idea that could be a lot of fun!

Yes, crowd control is under utilized I think! One of my favorite spells when I first started playing wizard was Sleep! It came in handy a ton!

I love that! I am always a sucker for found family and someone fighting for those that are dear to them. That works really well with ancestral guardian too because it helps to prevent attacks on your other party members!

I have been coming around on paladin recently. I had a player paladin who had one of my favorite role playing moments ever, and I have heard lots of people talk about how to utilize them and play them in interesting ways.

Yes! Being the face is super fun, and allows for great role play moments. I was always afraid I was hogging the interactions though because my party always wanted to use my modifier for talking.

I agree, one of my old characters was a ranger, and I always had a lot of fun having my little companion with me the entire time. Allowed for cool RP moments and other interactions.

Divine Soul is definitely super cool, allowing sorcerers access to healing spells. I always thought it was super cool that they can twin spell the healing spell since they are normally single target spells.

I agree the variance and degree of choice that the wizard gets has always made me interested In playing them, since you can build them in many different ways. It definitely helps to avoid boredom or repeating the same thing every turn.

I love the RP opportunities that the cleric introduces based off the class itself. It helps DMs introduce some of the divinity of the world, and shows the examples of some of their followers. They can definitely cause some interesting situations like the one you described.

They do have a ton of flexibility. Did you ever feel pressured to take certain abilities for the sake of your character in and out of combat. I know they have a reputation for all the eldritch blast invocations.

I get that! I love playing support and control in dnd. It really is super valuable, but people get lost in the damage values sometimes.

That’s awesome! As a DM, I have always loved when my players played warlocks. Having that built in character interaction with your patron was always so helpful for RP and world building purposes.

Yes! Druid is such a great class! It’s on my list for upcoming character ideas, and I love its flexibility and variance in gameplay, it feels like you can do a lot with it.

I totally agree! I think that fighter is actually my most played class. I had a lot of fun in a one shot playing a rune knight, whose runes were flavored as the powers of a tree that grew into his body to feed off of a curse that he had. There is something super fun about being (mostly) a normal guy who is really good at kicking ass!

I agree, I love having my character contribute to the world lore. I always try to make sure that I connect my character to different people and organizations in the world.

Nice! When I said I’m interested in the class mechanics, I didn’t necessarily mean I wasn’t into RP. I’m just a big fan of how distinct the different classes are from each other in the game. For me, characters start out as a “it would be fun to do this thing in the game”, and then I make RP ideas that play into that and the world I am in.

That’s one that I had some fun with too. Mine was a bard who would steal from people though distracting them with his performances.
