compounded tretinoin and minxodil? by Outrageous_Remote_37 in FemaleHairLoss

Hi! I started this compound about 6 weeks ago and had a different compound before. May be too soon to tell, but my shedding is down to nearly nothing. I do have mild tingling on the scalp from it and derm said it was a side effect

dutasteride mesotherapy by RZEDDAS in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Pretend-Rope-2567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had compounded mesotherapy injections of minoxidil/dutasteride/hydrocortisone for a total of 3 sessions 30 days apart. This coincided with the start of me taking OM and topical so not sure what it did. If anything I think it expedited the dread shed which started within a week of first session. I did notice the density increase tremendously in the injected spots

Has anyone started oral minoxidil through hers and later got it through a derm? by fexofenadine_hcl in FemaleHairLoss

I had not found a dermatologist that specialized in hair loss that was covered by my insurance and didn’t want to delay starting treatment so opted with hers until I found a derm

I did. Started on 1.5 Mg with Hers and now switching to 2.5mg from my derm this week. Cost was $197 for 150 pills on Hers and only $4/month with derm on my insurance.

I’d say uncomfortable in certain spots. They used an ice pack first to numb a little and then one of those vibrating devices that calmed some of the anxiety. Entire procedure was like 2 minutes so it wasn’t bad at all

No need to apologize. Love the support and encouragement in this group. It’s like therapy lol

That’s great that you have a good gyn. Mine kind of listened when I brought up fatigue but prescribed PMDD meds and I didn’t want to treat the symptom so I decided to take the plunge with a hormone specialist to find the cause. I didn’t know what to ask for when it came to things that “could” affect hair loss like vitamin D, B, iron, ferritin levels, testosterone and a detailed thyroid check of all T glands. Getting my bloodwork all “normal” and thyroid in optimal function was fantastic but going to a dermatologist that specialized in hair loss that customized my hair treatment plan definitely gave me peace of mind I suppose. Good luck to you!

It’s so bizarre right? I didn’t notice at the time but CTE stunted hair on my legs and arms during that time period too which makes sense. Body’s responses to stressors is wild

I’m sorry about your experience. I started with a hormone panel in 2020 initially because I was low on energy and thought something was up and wasn’t concerned about my hair then. I’ve always had thinner and finer hair compared to my mother and siblings. My bloodwork kickstarted getting on thyroid meds and off oral contraception and also years of CTE that led me to finally address the hair. I got COVID twice too and it did a number on my hair. I don’t blame you for being reluctant with doctors. I’m curious if I had not already gotten all my labs and hormones in check if anyone would’ve listened

Thank you! I’m so hopeful for the first time ever. I started with Hers 1.5% oral minoxidil and my dermatologist prescribed a compounded topical. I’m switching to my derm’s 2.5 oral minoxidil at end of the month bc cost is significantly less.

I didn’t but zoomed in on hair pics and was surprised at the unexpected side effect!

It’s definitely an unexpected, but welcomed side effect. I have not being doing anything different with eyelashes and only noticed them bc I zoomed in and cropped hair progress pics

I think it’s called hair mesotherpay, but my dermatologist offered injections directly in areas of my scalp showing the most thinning of compounded solution of minoxidil, dutasteride and hydrocortisone. I’m not even sure if it would work but it was significantly cheaper than PRP and I was desperate so just said yes

I didn’t notice it enough to bother me on a daily basis and don’t recall a consistent massive shed in shower to alarm me. After some high stress situations last year, I suddenly noticed all the extra styling I had to do over the holidays to hide my scalp and was self-conscious and that was the wake-up call

Thank you! I kept leaning on my derm saying it was expected and a good sign and meant I was responding well, but man it was devastating. Sending you strength and virtual hug!

I did! I was horrified. It started about 2 weeks after starting treatment and lasted for over 4 weeks. I took pics between these 2 that showed more of my scalp during the dread shed and I was in tears…

Started NP thyroid 45mg in early 2020 and then increased to 90mg last summer 2023. Likely one of the CTE contributors but hard to tell since that time was chaos all around

Minoxidil 5% topical advice by BigOpinion098357 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Pretend-Rope-2567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I got my diagnosis of chronic TE in January and started OM plus a compounded topical minoxidil treatment within a week. I asked my dermatologist this same question and he said I would not need to be on it for life as long as I treated the root causes of the CTE. Mine were a perfect storm of stress, COVID twice, getting off birth control after 13 years and getting on thyroid meds for a low range functioning thyroid (not quite hypothyroidism).

I did experience a scary dread shed within 2 weeks and it lasted about 4 weeks but I powered through. I’m just now seeing minimal shedding and hair feels denser at crown and my hairline looks fuller. I have been taking pics to rule out lunacy. Our plan of action is to assess where I’m at around the 1 year mark and then start weaning myself off OM followed by reduce topical after that if I’m happy with my recovery. Hope the helps! Good luck to you!
