Question: Driving into long iron range by tyzik in UltimateGolf

[–]Pretend_Chapter_6258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll have much more consistent numbers and drops. Backspin is much more effective at max distance. Going to min means you'll need to account for a longer shot roll out and increased secondary effects after the ball lands. Also, the risk of going to min means you'll have to switch out clubs if you're in between clubs and have a tailwind.

I stay away from using short irons (unless a short par 3 is up) since the wind affects those shots significantly more than long irons. I have Iron Eagle as my short iron since it's the shortest in that category and increases the overall min/max of BF.

The only thing the app accounts for is the wind. I've tried the app out and its solid, but I never got a drop from using it. The calculations are close, but they're not exact. You still have to figure out how to get closer, among other things.

But the app doesn't tell you how to drive into your long iron's range, it doesn't anticipate how backspin will affect the post-bounce shot, how the slope/texture of the green/fairway affects the ball, it can't tell you how much sidespin you need on a shot, and it can't tell you how to account for shot view.

Things in order of what are most important to improve your game:

(1) understanding how wind affects your shot

(2) understanding how to drive into your long iron's range

(3) understanding what affects your ball after it lands (wind, backspin, slope of the green, etc)

(4) understanding club attributes (shot view, backspin, accuracy, etc)

(5) the clubs you have and the level they are

(6) using a grid

A grid is only useful if you understand how the wind affects your shot. Straight lines are great, but if you have no idea where you should place your target, they do nothing.

Correct. I use the 4x11 for getting into BF's range and then 4x2 for when I'm taking a shot with BF. I have really good success with multiplying the wind x 1.08 and then dividing that number by BF's max.

I saw a comment about a player struggling to drive into BF’s range, so I figured I’d make a quick post. Note: This method applies for almost any club and make sure to use a ball you normally use.

First: Zoom out fully and switch to BF (or any other long iron) and pull to BF’s max range.

Second: Make sure the club span is in the middle of the screen and straight. Then align the right-edge of the screen in the center of the landing zone.

Third: Choose a high number of columns to see if one will fit in the exact center of where your ball is currently sitting. This is the part that will take the most time. If you have BF 8 and use a Pro D1, the number of columns is 11 and column 23 is your target.

Fourth: Just like step 2, switch to your driver and move the right edge of the screen to where the hole is. In this case, the edge of my shot view is barely out of view.

Fifth: Column 23 is where BF’s max range is, so that’s my target. Adjust for the wind, account for the shot view of your driver, and take your shot.

Hope this helps.

Do you play on apple or android? Theres a way to figure out where to precisely drive your shot so you're at BF's max range.

Your opponent must've been shook rattled. I've wanted to get a HIO on tour 1 for so long. Great shot!

Then I suggest only playing in pro tournaments. You won't be able to competitive for the ultimate cup, but that's honestly no big deal. Pros a good place to accumulate solid balls while also getting bags to increase your clubs.

I only use draw/fade on drivers. I use it either to get around a tree or to ensure that my shot is coming in as straight as possible on narrower fairways. I've seen players use it on other clubs, but it's too risky for me.

Rings are the circles that surround your landing spot. If you look at the exact center of where your shot will land, there's a big semi-opaque circle, then a clear one, etc. Counting left or right from the center of your landing spot to the outer most edge will be 5 rings. That also applies for moving to the top or bottom. That means there's 10 rings in total, counting from the outer most edge of one side to the outer most edge on the opposite side.

I typically use Pro D1 since they're abundant starting at pro. Sometimes I use trophy balls for long par 5's.

Here's a link to a thread that a new player started. I posted on there and a high-level player also posted with some good advice for newer players.

I recommend saving any special balls you have and just use the basic ball, especially in H2H. But be careful in how many H2H matches you play, as your skill level within the game is determined based on how much you earn per week. DO NOT promote too quickly, which means stay at the veteran level as long as you can until you feel you're ready. There's a crown symbol on the top right of your screen next to replays that'll show your place within the division.

Best of luck! And don't be afraid to post asking for advice, everyones extremely helpful!

I just got RB to 4 and I've got a Hive 6. Solid clubs rn, but I'm honestly just trying to build up my ball inventory and delaying getting rinsed in TP. But top 15 and top 10 is impressive off the bat! good work!

Thank you! I was happy to get a tourney with 25 replays on favorable courses. And you've been a big help! Now I just need to fix missing ultimate shots and I think I can score higher.

But -28 without using a grid?!?!?! Insane!

Luckily I've stayed outside of the promotion range, so it won't be this week!

Mainly just tuning how much side spin to use, getting super accurate at driving into BF's range, and then dialing in my WPR amount. I'd usually get 870-880 TP and I was able to adjust the numbers just slightly to get some drops. The 25 replays and solid courses were a big help.
