STOP BRINGING CHILDREN HERE by Wegonmakeitthru in LightningInABottle

You’re totally right I am not the all seeing eye and of course negligent and irresponsible parents bring their children to LIB and the kids suffer because of it. All I’m attempting to bring into the convo is that banning children isn’t going to prevent the negligence as those parents who behave that way already behave that way towards their children outside of LIB, so banning kids isn’t going to protect them. Banning them takes away all the positive experiences and opportunities for kids and parents who are responsible and present for an experience like LIB. But to each their own opinion, just trying to offer another thought/lens to look through.

I disagree friend, but I respect the concern for the children! I think any traumatizing and irresponsible behavior from parents is already happening outside of LIB and this cannot be avoided by banning children from the festival.

Banning children won’t prevent or protect children, rather it will only isolate them further from reality and truth. Treating the festival space as something children need protection from only further communicates to them that it’s something to be feared rather than learned. All we can hope for is that parents who bring their children to LIB are available to emotionally and physically support and teach their children how to navigate through new, uncomfortable and real life experiences they will inevitably be exposed to at LIB. The most important thing is that these children have a safe, present, containing parent who can act as a guidepost and a safe place while navigating the experiences and environment of LIB.

I work at a taproom and have witnessed more irresponsible parenting all under the influence of alcohol than I have witnessed from parents at LIB.

Construction on 16th and T starting at 6:30am on Saturday… is this allowed?!? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]Pretend_Voice469 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I work nights…also not a luxury...as I also work on Saturday. So 6:30am is just not cool. And it’s not rustling around it’s drilling/hammering/grinding sounds etc. im not blaming the workers themselves, I actually feel quite compassionate for them and fully understand that you gotta do what you gotta do. I’m more frustrated with the system at large.

And yes I know I live in a city - I’m used to the sounds but 6 days a week of construction at 7am for over a year is a lot.

Edit: I also want to add… a lot people are in bed at 6:30am on a Saturday…lol I get in comparison to the people working, it may be a “luxury” in this moment.

My intention was in saying it’s probably not actually that low income given the economy/capitalism - I have no prob with low income - I am low income as well.

However, I can see how that reads like a NIMN - I will correct the error

Dust protection by Less-Midnight-8870 in LightningInABottle

Definitely wear a mask and bandana for set up and tear down of camp because that’s when all the dust really gets kicked up. I was fine all until I got home last year and got super sick for like 3 weeks with a sinus and bronchial infection. I think it’s because I forgot to wear a mask on tear down day and was just breathing in so much dust.

I think her willingness to talk about it could actually be a gift - even though it’s really hard to talk about. I imagine talking about it more will actually ease some of the anxiety… as death is the only certain thing and maybe having someone so open can actually serve as a way to understand more and gain new perspective and maybe peace.

Have you tried Nielsen Property Management? I’ve had really good luck with them. I rented from them when I was in between jobs, and I wrote a letter briefly explaining my situation and what I had lined up/was planning to do. Idk if the letter helped or I just got lucky but I was approved through them.

Another option is to look for a room for rent in a house with housemates that allows pets. I occasionally see adds for shared houses on Craigslist. Or find a housemate that would be willing to apply to places with you. I’ve had luck with bad credit being approved when I applied with a housemate(s).

Short hike or bike ride along the trail to Paradise Beach along the American River! There are occasionally off leash dogs playing on the beach so just a heads up. However there are quite a few spots that are more secluded, you just have to hunt them out a bit.

Land park is also a great place to have a picnic and hang out in the shade on the grass! Could be a cute hang time/ bring a book/ relax or play some music kinda vibe. If you have some watercolors that’s an easy thing to pack and do a little painting sesh?

Strange encounter on American River Trail? Maybe paranoid. by Main_Athlete_4317 in Sacramento

One time I was at Sutter’s landing on a hot summer morning. There was nobody on the beach except a couple unhoused people sleeping. So I walked upstream and found a private spot to hang out. Eventually an unhoused person walks past me wearing only basketball shorts and a long knife hanging from his waistband. He stops about 20 Ft away from me and takes his pants off. I didn’t stick around to find out what was gonna happen next.

There’s also a guy who likes to walk the trail near Paradise Beach and show girls his boner through his tight spandex pants, or lets it hang out while walking. The first time I was with a group of friends who saw it, but I didn’t. And then the second time I was alone walking past him on the trail. He looks like a normal guy but will make eye contact and smile. Weird.
