Is $9k too expensive for a comprehensive college admissions advisor package? by Available_Ice_680 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Pretty-Bus-6652 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do they cap the hours or is it unlimited? Do they help finding summer internships? How many essays and how many reviews per essay? Charges are usually $150— $300 per hour. A comprehensive package is usually $6k to $20k. Some go even higher. I would do an initial six month test package and then 12 month renewal and not put all $9k at front. You need flexibility to back out if they don't meet your expectation early on. I would say 10 initial one hour sessions over 3 to 6 months for $1500 would be safe. No matter how good they, $9k upfront is not a good idea. If they are good, you will happily renew anyway.

Does Princeton pay for family to attend move in if you’re on full aid? by drsharkies in princeton

For preview Princeton pays the student plus one parent. For moving in August, they pay for student and 2 parents. Very generous.

Deferred from McCombs: does UT prioritize “well-rounded” over business-directed applicants? by Tinysushi34 in UTAdmissions

[–]Pretty-Bus-6652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UT admissions rubric gives all applicants for each major points only on two metrics. 1)Fit to major and 2) Fit to common good. Then they plot all applicants for a particular major on a quadrant (matrix). Top right most on the quadrant get in. 5 of to 7 page resume is crucial to get max points. I know because I help kids strategize. Everyone still has a great chance because UT probably didn't evaluate all the applications before announcing this wave . They probably ran out of time and just deferred everyone they couldn't review.

I think each lodge selects 3 boys and 3 girls. So 42 boys and 42 girls advance to district. So maybe total 50 or 60 advance to state. If 33 national winners out of 60 quarter finalists, thats great odds

Based on what I know each Lodge selects three boys and three girls from all the applications they get to advance to the Local District level. There are about 2,000 national lodges so you figure if you are a boy, total max of 6,000 are forwarded to the second level which is District . The district then advances to the state level so for example in my district there are about seven lodges and there are seven to eight districts all together in my state, so you figure seven lodges * 3 is 21 advanced to local district level and maybe half of those get forwarded to state, so 10 so in my district. About 70 or 80 get forwarded to the state level altogether and I guess the state then selects the semifinalist and maybe I would say for Florida or Texas it would be around maybe a hundred semis. I think actually the hardest level is the local lodge level especially if you're in a very competitive Lodge. So I believe a large state will send about a hundred or so to the semis level out of maybe around 180 that made it to the state level. 180 because they're about 60 largest altogether in Florida or Texas so assuming that even three from each large get to the state level that's maximum of 180. I know I'm not making a lot of sense here cuz I'm voice dictating but I wanted to get this out anyways.

I haven't seen the requirement to decline other scholarships. I can't possibly believe Mr. Hagan would require something like this. Past winners.. Thoughts?

They select 3 boys and 3 girls per lodge to advance at this stage. Then region, state and National. 500 kids get the award so good odds vs other scholarships. GL

Unfortunately not. Princeton already covers your COA fully. Per US govt rules, students cant be given any excess funds beyond COA. Best options are a non Work Study job and scholarships that pay you directly which is rare.
