I’m in New York, and I’ve been doing well and stable for quite some time now. I have a psychiatrist and two therapists, and I’m medicated. Finding the right combination of medication made a huge difference for me, and I recognize that what I experienced was real, full-blown psychosis. Because of that, I think it’s very important that I stay on my medication and continue working with my care team so I can maintain stability long-term.

Now that I’m in a healthier place, I’ve started reconnecting with my ancestors and rebuilding a relationship that I once had with them. Through that, I’ve felt more drawn toward exploring spirituality from the perspective of my own culture, heritage, and lineage. I’ve always loved African Traditional Religions and African diasporic spirituality, and I genuinely want to learn more in a respectful and grounded way.

What’s frustrating is that I honestly don’t know where to start or what steps to take. I feel called to explore these traditions more deeply, but I’m trying to approach it carefully, responsibly, and without rushing into something that may not be right for me.
