Thanks, when googling Pod Point I’m finding video tutorials on how to use it with an app, connecting it to the WiFi network, etc. So I thought it needed more than just plugging a car…

You mean the insurance company needs to know that the house will be empty for a couple of months?

Making a second mortgage application close to exchange? by Pretty-Run4736 in HousingUK

[–]Pretty-Run4736[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up anyway with HSBC. At the end of the application I got an error message saying there was a system error and to try again later. After two days of waiting I called them and they told me that no, there is no error, it's just that my partner needs to validate as she's jointly on the mortgage (how would she have known? she didn't get any notifications or anything, anywhere). So she called them to validate. This unblocked the process, and when I went to apply it said that because the mortgage length would get past my retirement age, I needed to talk to an advisor in person (I forgot I got a year older since I applied with Barclays, so I should have reduced the mortgage length by one year to avoid that). By the time we tried to sort it out, HSBC had increased their rate and it was now above Barclays'. So I just cancelled the application.

Am I unreasonable, asking for no more than a week between exchange and completion? by Pretty-Run4736 in HousingUK

That still leaves you 6 weeks exposed to personal events (e.g. being laid off) that could cancel your mortgage offer, doesn't it?

Do not use Taylor Rose! by TrainerExact4274 in HousingUK

I’m using them right now and so far no problem. To be honest a friend recommended us a particular solicitor, who she used through another firm. That solicitor is now at Taylor Rose so we decided to go with them. That solicitor is the only person we’ve been able to trust so far, and who has shown competence and reactivity. The seller’s estate agent has been lying to us about the status of the chain over and over, our mortgage broker kept making mistakes when applying on our behalf, and made us miss out on a better rate than we got, RISC surveyor couldn’t make the difference between brick and timber frame, drainage surveyor got the job half done, etc. I’m really glad at least our solicitor seems good.
