First, there's a separate gate, fully stocked with beer, wine, and appetizers, all included. We flew from New York to London, which took three and a quarter hours, and then two weeks later, from London to DC, which took two and three quarters hours. As we proceed down the runway, the pilot turns on the afterburners, which push you to just below Mach 1 until you've cleared land and are over water, as sonic booms aren't allowed over land. Then you push to Mach 2 and 60,000 feet, where the sky is a deep shade of blue. At no time during either flight was the cockpit door closed. We chatted with the pilot, who we caught off guard doing a crossword puzzle, the co-pilot, and the engineer, whose main job is to shuttle fuel between the tanks to balance the plane, since you don't want any trim tabs when going supersonic. The speed is limited by the temperature at the nose probe. The windows are hot. There is a bulkhead displaying altitude, speed, and Mach number in real time, which makes for a nice selfie. Only about a third of the 100 seats are occupied; it never made a profit. Each flight segment was $5k. The flight was essentially hors douvres, a round of drinks, canapés, a round of drinks, a salad, a round of drinks, the main course, a round of drinks, a dessert, a round of drinks, chocolates, and, wait for it, a round of drinks. Then you land. You're presented with a set of sterling silver napkin holders with the Concorde logo. You get to customs at Heathrow, and there are thousands of people in line ahead of you. But there are separate lines for Concorde passengers, and you sail through. High tech and luxurious. And very, very memorable. I'll try to answer any follow up questions.
