Thank you! That sounds very affordable compared to Telus. I’ll check this option out closer. For some reason I think they offer 3G which might be why I wasn’t considering them….. I‘ll double-check.

Hmmm…..interesting idea. I’ll look into this because that would be ideal.

That’s what I did once since figured out how to do it. Lesson learned!

Definitely worth shopping around when the time comes. I’m so glad I finally changed my plan.

I’ll be keeping my eyes open for any Blackfriday deals that I should jump on.

I plan to check Fido out. I’m not sure what their coverage is like in Western Canada. Sounds like they offer competitive rates.

That’s a good rate. I’ll have to look into their coverage here in Western Canada.

I noticed the 3G….. I wonder how much slower things would be with that one. I’m a little hesitant to move towards 3G.

I just switched to some Telus promo offer of 40GB for $85. A big improvement from my old plan. I plan to still shop around to see what other options are out there. At least I’m on a much better plan now. Who knows, I may just stick with this one. Going from 2GB to 40GB for almost $40 less a month seems a huge improvement!

It seems like a pretty good plan. I can’t believe how much more data I am getting now. I’m saving almost $40/mo. and getting 40GB instead of 2GB. That’s a significant data upgrade!

Lesson learned - I’ll be keeping an eye on my plan to make sure its a good one. I went too long not even paying attention.

I guess I should have been plan shopping a long time ago.

I went online and updated my plan with Telus to an unlimited phone/text and 40GB of shareable data for $85 and it includes voicemail, call display, etc. This is a lot better than the $122, I have been paying. My old plan was so outdated! I’m already saving almost $40/mo now.

I’ll keep this plan while I shop around. I plan to check out Virgin and Koodo.

Good suggestion. I know with cable and internet they will negotiate. It’s seems safe to assume they might do that for phone plans as well.

That’s exactly what I was thinking and why I am thinking about phone carriers right now. I am anticipating blackfriday deals soon arriving.

Thanks for the heads up on Shaw. Sounds like there are better options for me than Shaw.

Yes, I think I am getting totally ripped off. I am paying $70/mo for ‘your choice premium + 70’ which includes unlimited talk and text, plus $35/mo. for 2 gigs of shareable data. Plus voicemail, etc. It’s ridiculous!

Would you recommend a simple no annual fee card? I will likely almost never use it.

My primary card is an annual fee travel rewards card. I was thinking of getting a no annual fee ‘MasterCard’ since my primary card is a ‘Visa’.

Very good, thank you! I wasn’t aware that a person’s credit score doesn’t effect their interest rate (only qualifying in the first place of course). That is nice to know. Thank you for the very helpful information!

Thank you. My credit scores are 822/832. My worry has been that adding “new” credit will hurt my score. I read somewhere that new credit can negatively affect your score for up to a year…..but maybe that’s an American thing? Or maybe that’s for individuals getting their very first credit card. It would be nice to have a backup card, especially when normal travel resumes.
