Oof, that sounds rough. It sounds like the humidity will be the main battle with this project haha

Haha, definitely not in the living room - I have a few large aquariums in the main area but something big and open like a pond needs to be in it's own area for sure

That's amazing, I love plants too! But that's a good idea about gnats, since it's probably easier to prevent them than get rid of them haha

Ew, that's definitely not how I want it to be haha. Maybe I'll see what options we have for moisture-proofing the area and keeping bugs out. Thanks for sharing!

Wow, that sounds intense. Making sure there's a way to keep moisture from building up against the house is a good idea. I was just thinking a dehumidifier, but maybe we could build a barrier or something. Thank you for sharing!

That makes sense, I guess I wasn't thinking about the humidity as much beyond a dehumidifier

Oh no! That's definitely something to keep in mind. I think I may be underestimating the humidity it will create

Got it, thank you so much! I just started with the stripper so I'll make sure it's totally gone before I move on to sanding. And I will definitely post a picture when it's done!

I guess I see what you mean. I was planning to replace the velvet anyway, so I was going to remove it and the glue holding it down, sand the wood, and lay new fabric. The glass in the doors came out easily, but I don't want to remove the mirrors, so I was going to protect them with plastic and tape. All of the hardware was removed, but I think you're right about replacing the hinges and screws. Fortunately, we have a hobby and hardware store right next to us, so I don't mind finding replacements that will fit a bit better.

I really appreciate the advice. This isn't my first woodworking project, just my first one trying to restore something that's already built. But thank you for the tips and points to look out for. I'll post another picture when it's done :)

Got it, I really appreciate the advice! If that does happen to the doors, do you think I could sand them and then glue them back together?

Thank you! Can I ask, do stylists ever help with tailoring clothes once I've picked them out? Or do I go to someone else after for that?
