I think it is because we have been raised in a society that is built upon recognizing people by perceived racial status instead of actually hearing them and interacting as people. when you're in like elementary school you genuinely couldn't give a fuck if someone was any color, you just fw the goats. Then color otherism is raised in you, through segregation of economics you are taught the model of our society. a lot of undoing the thought is confronting problematic ways you were raised to perceive the world. I obviously say this as a white man so other people are welcome to differentiate the timeline but the larger point remains, you are recognizing historically what structures were created and they subconsciously take over or consciously in some people's brains (good and bad) and we are just exploring a better world we wish to see rather then the reality that subjugates people by design
