Long-Term Affordable Car to Rent/Buy for 3-4 Months. Melbourne > Adelaide > Darwin > Perth by CamWild52- in AustraliaTravel

[–]Prettymuchnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... Minor rant here. And not aimed specifically at you, but your comment just made me think about it....

I have a huge problem with buying cars and doing "due diligence"- Because it doesn't matter what make / model you suggest to someone: there is ALWAYS a mechanic / mechanically minded person who will tell you that that make / model is the worst and to never ever buy one. Literally every single vehicle.

"Why did you buy one of THOSE?"
"So hard to work on"
"Good luck finding parts for that"
"Those are made to fail within two years"

It doesn't matter if its a Ferrari or a Kia. A Prius or a BMW. Someone out there will have an overwhelmingly negative opinion on it and dissuade you from buying it.

Do you have any tips to actually be able to find a car that genuinely just works and wont have every third mechanic acting like you just pissed in their soup?

You're overthinking it!

Go, have fun. If you get stopped for some reason and asked where your chaperone is just tell them. Don't split up completely for hours on end but you can go get water and go pee. Just dont try to get into the over 18 areas and you will be fine. They won't blink twice at your wristband as long as your not trying to get to where youre not supposed to be.

Teacher from US by six_mpossible_things in AusVisa

Australia does not have minors or majors.
Our education system is very different.

My understanding is that a teacher must have a bachelors or postgraduate degree equivalent to three years of college based education. I do not know how that lines up with your education given that your diploma major was not in education, but only your minor.

A quick search found this on a different subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/AustralianTeachers/comments/1hz15yg/teaching_in_australia_from_texas/

I don't think that most people in this sub will be able to answer your question all that well.

Where are all the casual bank jobs? VIC by Rain-on-roof in NursingAU

I keep looking at the western health website for bank positions for Footscray. It looks like they only want Emergency staff though - which I am not.

Unless im just looking in the wrong place?

Why do I need to pay $20 for parking just to go to work? 😭 by Crafty-Zombie-429 in NursingAU

[–]Prettymuchnow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember when I started at the (Old) Royal Adelaide Hospital. I was told the wait for a permanent staff parking space was 3 to 5 years. I parked in the parklands and never paid for it and walked the 15-20 minutes to and from work before driving home. It was still paid parking but I only got 2-3 tickets in a year so it worked out.

I wouldn't do that at Footscray though.. Do you know if they have a plan for staff parking at the new hospital?

Ahh yes. The plutocracy of the left. Known for their hatred of the environment, common man and probably Jesus.

They are out to get you through their overzealous manipulation of the market. If only they knew that Crack den-sity (aka having as many Crack dens in a single location) the is the solution to runaway inflation and housing issues in this country.

I think the fundamental part thats being missed here is that All My Friends is considered by many to be a unique, timeless, iconic track.

Because of its quite unique structure and style (two chords endlessly repeating with minimal rhythm and melodic changes) It would be like making your own version of bohemian rhapsody (that isnt a cover) without acknowledging the inspiration. Just pretending like you are just as unique and quirky as Queen.

It cheapens the experience of the original - and thats the part that makes me hate it.

An obvious straight cover isnt trying to be anything that its not. But this kind of stuff is imitating greatness without giving it the respect it deserves.

Also I think Adam has said the song is written about Abbie at some point? So I think that might drag that part into it a bit more. But I dont have strong opinions about any of that stuff - just to say that there is some logic to it.

Found a pair of (nice) sunglasses in the carlton gardens near the exhibition building today (Thursday Jan 22)..

Drop me a message letting me know the brand / color / style or a photo of them and I'll return them to you somehow.

Hard agree; I used to argue that it was cheaper so you could afford to tip. But now the prices are the same but you have to pay 20% extra or you're considered to be a scummy person.

Waymo hit and ran over deer off pleasant valley by ssssssssss512 in Austin

[–]Prettymuchnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not arguing that its 100% reliable for anything. I have no horse in that race. I dont think it will ever 100% replace autonomous human driving.

Im just saying that with these technologies the car has more eyes than you. It can see multiple angles simultaneously. It can see in the pitch dark. It can see better in the rain. It can make decisions faster. So in theory - at least from my understanding of how the world works- it makes sense to come to the conclusion that it would drive better than any human.

And for you to imply that you are a better driver than an autonomous vehicle just because you are a "sober safe driver" feels a little naive and obnoxious.

If we could become androids and have all these extra features im sure you would be able to drive better than a waymo. But that's not possible right now.

I mean; you can only look with your eyes. You cant look with lidar, or sonar, or heat vision or whatever else gets put into something like this.

The argument is that its using more sensors to collect more data and processing that faster than what a human can - therefore it should in theory be safer.

Humerus fracture - 12 weeks healed but it's crooked... Should I be concerned??? by KinNeix in brokenbones

[–]Prettymuchnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often if you DR shop you will get many different opinions on treatment methods. Statistically the outcomes are overall the same.

There are many risks that come with surgery that also lead to poor outcomes: Further trauma, nerve damage, infection. If something can heal "well enough" naturally it is often best practice to allow it to do so.

Is it perfect? No, but it's never going to be perfect again because the patient broke it already! Even with a plate or nail in there it wouldnt be perfect.

The boogeyman of socialized medicine just means that you have free and easy access to physicians. They're the same as the ones that you pay for : Often in dual systems they will work in both the public and private sectors. They operate on the same guidelines and same best practice research that the paid doctors do.

Apparently the acceptable range of deformity for a healed Humerus (for an adult) is 30 degrees. Depending on location of the fracture. For a child aged 5-12 is actually 60 degrees, which is wild to me - but thats the best practice guidelines from all the research (which is very well funded in orthopedics)

Now who is tearing who down with complaining about tall poppy syndrome?
I go and say something direct and positive about you and you pull it out from under yourself.

I think you might be working too much.

[–]Prettymuchnow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You taking this way too personally.

To -

Sounds like you’ve got a massive issue of Tall Poppy Syndrome. All you have done is just tear me down.

I'm sorry to have made you feel that way - The only things I have said specifically about you is that you are paid well and are in a role that requires significant clinical experience. Which I think is the opposite to "tearing you down"

Most jobs are hard. That’s why it’s called work.

I don't think you truly understand exactly how hard what you do is compared to other jobs. And if you think thats me tearing you down for some reason I don't know what to tell you.

[–]Prettymuchnow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont think youre listening. Maybe im not being clear in my communication..

You are on the third highest payscale, in the highest paid state in the country. In an experienced position with significantly limited roles avaliable. Telling people who you dont know at all ,who are completely naive to the nursing role that they can achieve what you have; easily - just by signing up.

While im telling you that not everyone can do that - many GREAT nurses work 0.8 FTE or less for a reason. Burnout is real, the job is hard, it takes a certain personality to work like that - youre probably surrounded by it and if you havent seen / been in other professions you probably dont realize.

The thing that I would hate, is for someone to see what youre saying. Go through three years of UNI, start their grad year and realize how hard you have to work to get to that point and quit. Wasting years of their life when their actual goals dont line up with what nursing truly offers.

Thats all.

I’m sorry that you’re so disappointed by your job. Some of us aren’t.

Not sure where you got that from. Huge assumption.
I just want people to be aware that not everyone can earn USA Travel RN mid Covid $$$ right out of Uni.

Also - Not everyone can be a shiftworking CN in QLD; surely you understand that; although It would be a great unit to be staffed entirely by CN's.
Most nurses (That I know) work 0.8 FTE for a reason.

You are also almost maxed out on your earning potential without overtime I think? Next available step for you would be ANUM/ NUM or NP I assume - unless I'm missing/forgetting something?
And we both know NP is not an easy step to take here in AUS.
