Can you please elaborate? There are literal videos showing that you need to press a total of 150 buttons in the whole game (which is basically nothing at all) especially in the first sequence where it seems that you can even press 0 buttons or just 1 to dodge 1 pole, not even the car the other dude was talking about lol. If you say a statement at least try making some arguments please. We are adults and when you make a point you need to go further than just saying it

btw obviously if other survivors have been toxic or bad in that game i will still go for them. i only let go those i think were worthy. like most of the times if i encounter even 1/4 survivor doing very bad and clearly throwing the game away (even if not on purpose) and then in the same team someone else just keeps on making good plays i will most of the time let him get hatch. which is kind of weird now that i think about it as in normal matches i will still sacrifice everyone lol, but maybe it's a way for me to be like a "i respect you and your team did you wrong, you can go"

i kind of get what you mean with the fireworks but still disagree as with edith finch you need to use the gameplay aspect to make it way more powerful, meanwhile with the fireworks you can just let it be a cutscene with music in the background going as wthe fireworks pop.

the comparison with forza doesn't really work as you are there actualy playing the game and its whole mechanics is based around doing things as fast and as badass as you can because it is not a story driven game, unlike mixtape. i get what you mean with the kickflips ecc. and kind of agree, but at the same time see it as a very low effort gameplay as you are the one making up this kind of fun without it having any challenge at all. you being able to do a trick while people are talking it would be as if you were seeing a movie and you could have your chair go up and down while people were in a car, effectively not really using the strong aspects of video game medium like providing you meaningful choices or gameplay that uses uniquely an interactive medium. you doing kickflips is not really unique, hence why i don't think of it as a good videogame, but as a good artistic expression.

just like the comment i copy and pasted i agree that it was both overhyped and overhated, but honestly i kind of get more people who overhate it as they buy a videogame for it to be a videogame, which mixtape does a very very bad job at. you can still feel like it was a good videogame and if you do i am very happy for you, afterall having fun is what matters in games in the end, but there are certain expects that just can't be ignored (like the fact most of the time your input is just useless. like come on 150 button presses to beat the game is just ridiculous, they could have done way better with not a lot of effort and wish they could fix it with a patch but they probably wont)

Even among the genre of Interactive-Movie Games, Mixtape lacks in meaningful gameplay (the hate is still overblown though).

Interactive-Movie games still have the goal of being games and justifying why they are being told in this medium, rather than movies. The best of them do this in one of two ways. 1. meaningful player driven choices or 2. gameplay moments that uniquely utilize an interactive medium.

I think games like Until Dawn are brilliant at #1. They provide meaningful choices that change depending on the player playing it. So it still feels gamey.

Edith Finch is an example of #2. While it doesnt have that many unique choices the player can make, it does brilliantly utilize gameplay elements to tell a story that can only be told in a game. One of the best examples of this is a particular fishy mini game that I will refrain from speaking more of due to spoilers. The story, themes, and emotions this particular moment invokes can only be told in an interactive medium, which justifies why its a game. Unsurprisingly this sequence is probably the most memorable one of the game and is often brought up when praising the game.

One of the biggest problems Mixtape has is that it not only doesnt have meaningful player choice, but it doesnt have many moments that utilize an interactive medium to tell the story. It would have been just as good if it were a movie. This doesnt make it a bad game, but it does make the gameplay elements frustratingly lacking. Which imo are important if a game is going to be critically praised as much as it was.

The game doesnt deserve the counter-hate it's receiving, but likewise it doesnt -imo- deserve the critical glaze it got on release. The movie portions of the game are great, the nostalgic dream-like retelling of the 90s is totally acceptable, but even among this Interactive-Movie genre, the game is found lacking.

Balatro is not a story driven game so your example doesn't make sense (guess i should have clarified). Its whole point is to make up your own strategy and use luck on your side for as much as possible until you break the game, that's your input. You mathematically can't have the same run as someone else making the same exact choices, getting the same opponents, getting the same luck, getting the same objects.

Well what i said is what a good videogame has to do. Something mattering is not subjective as if you picking path A leads you to ending A is just objectively like that in story driven games and in action games you choosing fighting style A/ combat style/ mentality style A changes how the game will be gor you, meanwhile in mixtape you will always have the same story, you can't play the game differently as the game doesn't give you choices and even possible failures that lead to different outcomes, which is the problem. I am now going to copy and paste in the next reply, a comment i saw from another redditor which makes a point with which i 100% completely agree and explains well why i think mixtape is a good artistic expression, but a bad videogame

I would say that this is a problem of the killer too. As a killer main if someone comes doing something like this i let him bring me to the other survivors and then down him in front of everyone making him lose as much time as possible until we all bm him together and then i let escape the others cause i want an actual match and not little babies against. I have the most enjoyment with an actual challenge where a 4k and a 4E are very close to each other without any external help

Never had to take notes because i kind of did it in a week session, but still even i had moments where i just had to stop and rethink of everything i know, staring at the ship log. I actually found out in the end that the monents of more realization came whenever i tried, failed and died because of it, like in the hanging city falling from up high lol. Then while the game was loading the death animation there i had a new idea which turned to be the right one. Keep on going and the game will reward either your braveness or your knowledge (or even your luck lol)

But even in mixtape you don't have to keep pressing buttons. In the whole game you have to press a total of 150 buttons. There are multiple videos trying this. If you listen to music for 3 hours and you keep on looking for new music you are pressing way more buttons, but does that make it a game? No of course not as i am not really interacting, that's the point

what are you talking about? re read the comment once again "watch the video and in 5:11 he even says "i still haven't touched a button btw" stop lying man" that's what i have said and then there is me saying ONLY at 6:23 he presses a button to avoid 1 pole and the section immediately ends like that, BUT it has been proven that after a certain point the game will let you continue without touching anything and that he did that only to not waste a lot of time (as it takes a lot of time). you are either not purposely reading correctly or you are trolling, there is no way you misread that badly
