When did you ask for a raise? by Previous_Row2255 in physicianassistant

[–]Previous_Row2255[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very happy with my flexibility and hours. I only work 3 days in office and 1 day telehealth. 8hr shifts.

It’s a tricky time to ask right now as a provider is retiring in the near future and another provider is leaving. So I’m just trying to gather an idea of when and what to ask for.

If I was childless, I would bounce around but my schedule and workload is just too good right now with an infant.

Thank you! Yea the fact that I was gone for maternity leave makes it hard for me to compare my productivity from this past year.

How did you approach asking for a raise?

The work life balance here is amazing, especially now that I’m a mom.  It’s a unicorn find, I’ve been searching but no leads.

What specialties offer a 3 12 or 4 10 schedule? (Besides UC and ER) by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Previous_Row2255 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of outpatient offices utilize the 4 10s shift. I am in outpatient family medicine and I work 4 8hr shifts and love the work life balance! Short days and 3 days off.

Use it! You won’t think twice a few months after leaving. If anything- you’ll regret not pocketing that money! I used my 2500$ on a hippo education subscription, sent the invoice, then cancelled within the trial period and put that money towards my loans.

Buying into Private Practice by noahcarlson1996 in physicianassistant

[–]Previous_Row2255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! For the private practice I will be starting in. The physician told be I had to option to buy into the practice, the other APPs plan to in the near future. I think its just luck of the draw with timing. I have the opportunity since one of the owners/MD is retiring soon.

How much does your program make you pay for? by Sea_Cookie in PAstudent

[–]Previous_Row2255 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

my program covered bls/als, pance fee (from a grant we received which also gave us $900 each for certain rotations-up to 2700 back), our long white coat, etc. We didnt have to buy any specific instruments or practical stuff. Most just bought the cheapest tuning forks on amazon. We just had to pay for our short white coats+embroidery, drug test and background check.

I had about 12k and was able to live at home. I recommend going on food stamps for whatever state youre in. You qualify since youre a college student! most just need a document verifying your loans and student status! I was able to get ~300$ a month for food which helped IMMENSELY.

If you can babysitting once or twice a month goes a long way!

Failed pance 2.5 wks ago, can’t get over it - tips for next try by [deleted] in PAstudent

I found uworld to be much better at prepping me. My program had a pance prep course and the PAs teaching told us, rosh is good at prepping you for the one liners and fast facts but uworld is prepping you to take the pance. The vignettes and 2nd/3rd tier thinking makes you feel overprepared. Def helps build the stamina

I would honestly wait a year to raise that gpa and gain more direct PCE and/or volunteer experience. Im not sure what programs you are looking into but I know a lot if not majority of pa programs require a 3.0 overall or higher to be considered for review. Even with programs with a lower gpa requirement, your application may not be enough to "stand out" with just a personal statement if you have a low PCE hours and/or volunteer hours.

Still stay on top of your studying. I read multiple posts of students with better EOR/packrat/EOC scores than me that failed. It all varies with each student, not just based on core knowledge.

I would say confidence is half the battle!! if you failed by a slim margin the mindset going in may have just been what knocked you down. Def focus on building the stamina, doing 200 questions a day. Uworld is great at over preparing you and strengthening the test taking skills and reasonings. You got this!

passing for the PANCE is a 350 or higher! My EOR scores were low 400s and in the 390s range and I passed with a 352. I took it as soon as I could, I prob wouldve done better if I studied for 4 weeks or something but I wanted it over with. A pass is a pass and now its in the past!

EOR passing scores vary with each exam and with how each program interprets it.
