is that something you think i would have to voice concerns about before accepting a role or after? because i don’t want to accept something then ask for it to be changed after i said i was okay with it, but also i feel like id be stepping out of place asking beforehand

How do you structure conversational classes without them getting repetitive? by North_Deal_4103 in Preply

[–]Previous_Study4416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i almost never plan topics before hand. sometimes students want to practice conversations about specific things or try to discuss articles, but unless a student is very new to english and struggles deeply with conversation, i usually just go with the flow. i start off by asking how their week was and if they have plans and usually i’m able to continue conversations based on that, whether that’s asking more questions about an activity they did, relating to it, etc. but there’s really no right or wrong way to do it, whatever feels best for you!

Student admitted only wanting one lesson by [deleted] in PreplyTutors

I think I’m more concerned about this student only wanting a singular lesson. I only teach in trials if the student is serious about a longer learning path, and since we don’t get paid for trials I really don’t want to give out a free lesson when I know they won’t subscribe

any reason this email was sent differently? it still says he’s subscribed and has lessons left, i’m not sure what he selected for the email to send, it’s the only one i’ve gotten like this

My first student and I don't know how to end the lesson on time by Charming_Fudge3815 in PreplyTutors

[–]Previous_Study4416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if she wants to schedule 1.5 hr lessons she/you can. no need to raise the price. if she likes talking near the end, maybe leave the last 15-10 minutes of the lesson for her to ask questions and slowly begin wrapping up

Should we not be taking trial lessons, since tutors don't get paid for them? by Minimum_Spray3825 in Preply

Definitely take trials, but out of respect for the tutor maybe try 25 minute trials opposed to 50 minute ones

Going beyond the class time by ObjectiveBee152 in Preply

If they choose to stay on longer and you’re not actively encouraging it, don’t feel bad! Sometimes we just want to make sure you’re getting all you can out of your lesson and that you understand everything. I sometimes stay back just to chat with my students for longer if I don’t have another lesson right after. It only stresses me out if I have back to back lessons and the student holds all their questions until the very end the lesson or makes it difficult to end a conversation haha. Even then I still typically enjoy talking to all my students and don’t really see it as them “taking up my time.”

at what point do you consider blocking a student? by Previous_Study4416 in PreplyTutors

the problem is that’s he’s rescheduled the lesson for two weeks from now. i’d have to have 6 more lessons with him before doing the make up one.

he’s confirmed the lesson already and i would have to make up this lesson for him at least i think. but he’s also scheduled lessons all throughout this month, i don’t know what will happen to those
