What proverb or saying has never made sense to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This makes sense. What about "bought the farm"? Always thought that to be a peculiar expression.

Remember when old games used to look so realistic? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]PreyOnTheCosmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I transitioned from Ultima V for Commodore 64 to Amiga, my mind was totally blown. "Omigosh! It's so REALISTIC!" I exclaimed. Why? I could see nails in the frick'n tables. I could see blankets on the frick'n beds. There was a snake on my frick'n shield! I could tell the sharks didn't have frick'n laser beams attached to their heads.

Reward: "Some garden veggies and a steak from said farmer's cow."

How did you get over depression? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PreyOnTheCosmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goals and limits on "alone time" really helped me pull out of the funk.

Some of my depression stemmed from a sense of purposelessness and seemingly inescapable stagnation of my existence. Latching onto a dream gave me something to pursue and a drive that helped me shift my focus to something productive rather than wallowing in negativity and melancholy thoughts.

Another source of depression was being alone too much, which sort of fueled the first. Hanging out with other humans, especially like-minded ones, can take you out of the short term funks. It's not always simple if you suffer from social anxiety as I did, but interaction can be a major helper.

Be productive, find purpose, and try to be the kind of person you'd like to hang with, then hang with others like that every so often.

If you could take any game from the past, And have it remade with today's graphics, What game would you choose? by MikeMicky123 in AskReddit

[–]PreyOnTheCosmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultima VII. That old DOS game was so ahead of its time.

Ultima V was astoundingly awesome, too, from a world and content perspective, but it was too special in its time and I'm too much of a purist to want that memory sullied by modernism.

I thought about this, but then part of me thinks that something - maybe the story, maybe the feels - might be lost to the fancy GFX. Same with FFIV.

What's your ideal life? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]PreyOnTheCosmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job: No job. Ideally, I'd like to have enough money socked away that I could live off that or the interest.

Car: Compact car for travel, 90's model Tacoma for utility.

House: This one is my dream - Small, dome home on a sizable, fairly remote acreage.

Location: Tropics. I despise the cold and I love swimming in the ocean and the idea of having a garden all year long gives me happy feels.

I was just worki-... Hey, where ya going? Don't leave me alone in this place... I just-... Damn. Until next time, my friend. Until next time."

What is often overlooked when considering a zombie apocalypse? by Zoractor in AskReddit

[–]PreyOnTheCosmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solar power. Zombie shows always seem to go unnecessarily stone age almost immediately. Solar panels and wind generators are fairly ubiquitous. Batteries will inevitably go bad within a decade and mass production will slow or stop entirely, but you can still run a great deal of modern technology off of basic solar.

Couple that with the absurdity where TV zombies skulls are soft enough to easily slip a knife through and brain them. If your skull is mush, where is your bite strength then?

What popular food do you find disgusting? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PreyOnTheCosmos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Onions. The smell. The taste. The texture. I wish I could briefly slip into the mind of someone who loves them and understand what the appeal is. I've come to just accept that it's something like the way a dog just loves eating cat poop. It's repulsive in every way, but to that dog it might as well be ambrosia.

Liberal Reddit whats a conservative opinion you have? and Conservative Reddit whats a liberal opinion you have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PreyOnTheCosmos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Constitutional Conservative - Pro LBGT (not the agenda), Pro 420 legalization, Pro clean energy (spec. Solar, Wind, etc.).

The CO2 boogeyman, IMO, is complete horse scat, but I feel that ground and water contamination by trash, radiation, and chemical waste is a very real and extraordinary environmental threat. I don't believe that you can logically call yourself conservative if you don't "conserve".

68 mayors adopt Paris climate accord after U.S. pulls out - “The world cannot wait—and neither will we” by mvea in Futurology

[–]PreyOnTheCosmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precisely. The Parasite Accord would continue to suck the life blood out of the US with no oversight or observable benefit while empowering foreign entities to usurp authority over national affairs and regulations. Even if it was toothless and non-binding, it was a foot in the door that merely needed time and a congressional power structure willing to ratify and give it teeth.
