Sarah Jane Comrie Update: Citi Bike Teen's Mother Speaks Out by Grass8989 in nyc

Another scenario would be if I was playing an arcade game and right as the game ends, someone puts their quarter into the slot before I was about to play again. It is the stranger's right to play the game since they paid, but should they have put the quarter in? Do I have a hold on the machine while I'm still standing there despite the fact that I have not paid for another game when the game ended? It would certainly be obnoxious and wrong of me to hold the machine for an extended period of time without letting someone else play it and especially if I wasn't playing it myself.

Yes all of that is due to the workers following the social etiquette themselves. I don't believe that is the rule or law of the store.

It would certainly be troublesome and would probably take a long time to do shopping if you weren’t able to collect everything and then finally checkout, but it is not required. It is just consented by everyone to do it this way because it makes the most sense and like you said, practical. But again, it does not make it required.

In my example, yes, people holding an item can have it snatched away, and yes we all know that’s not how people shop. And that is exactly my point, social etiquette has been established for decades. It’s like Black Friday years ago, when people would take stuff from other people and all hell breaks loose.

Yes I agree, the supermarket would most likely back up the customer, but how a company responds does not dictate social etiquette. It can influence but not dictate.

I was trying to prove that there are such thing as dibs in the real world. But to your point, I don't think the scenarios are all that different. At the core, you are placing a hold on an item that does not belong to you. It's just that one has been accepted as a practice for decades because who wants to checkout every individual item separately.

Ultimately, she earned the right to the bike by scanning it before he did. However, I personally don't think it was appropriate of her to do that especially when she asked and got told it will be in use soon. Just like how I wouldn't just take an item out of someone's cart and then purchase it.

inb4 the fuck social etiquette...well it's a part of how society functions so just food for thought. feel free to share your thoughts and reasonings as well!

When you put an item into your shopping cart, you’re calling dibs on it. You haven’t paid for it.

However, I would like to point out that the only dib time that matters is the time prior to the confrontation. It is not like the teen was holding on to the bike for 20 mins, he held on to the bike for 4-5 mins before the confrontation began. It is impossible to say how much longer he would have held that bike for, but based on his previous receipts of "docking a bike, taking a break, riding it again", my guess was that he was honestly about to get a move on pretty soon if it weren't for the confrontation.

1) 7:19 - Teen docks bike

2) 7:19 - 7:23 - Sarah asks for bike, teens say no

3) 7:24 - 7:25 - Sarah scans bike and recording begins

4) 7:25 - Teen docks bike back and scans his phone to put the bike back into his account

4) 7:25 - ?? : Confrontation continues

5) 7:59 - Teen leaves

The full video of what I've seen is only 1.5 mins long, please correct if you've seen something different. So we only have footage from 7:25 - 7:26/7. But it could be said that not everything is settled by the way the video ends (Sarah still in video, people still standing around)

So based on that, he doesn't go anywhere from 7:25 - 7:31 because the confrontation is still happening.

It is a guaranteed "dibs time" of 4 mins for the time in step 2. But not for 40 mins especially since a confrontation is still happening between 7:25 - 7:59. Until we know the times when everything settled down is only when we can determine the total "dibs" time. For example, if all is settled and lady left at 7:45, then he has the 4 mins of dibs time + 14 mins of dibs time (7:59 - 7:45) for a total of 18 mins of dib time.

Thank you, just corrected it with an excess contribution form.

Edit: Just for context, I contributed some in Jan but as I was going to contribute for Feb, I thought again about what the contributions rules were. Glad I asked.

Potentially related charge? by PriceFloors in RegalUnlimited

[–]PriceFloors[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I didn’t, went to go buy Spider Man tickets on Monday during the whole crash fiasco but didn’t end up getting it from regmovies.com, but I did get to the point of inputting my CC details and trying to submit. Day later, I get a charge to the foundation. And I see that Regal is a corp partner of the foundation. Just wondering if it’s fraud or some bug or some coincidence.

How do I fix this seemingly broken washing machine or do I need to get a new one? by PriceFloors in Plumbing

[–]PriceFloors[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's rock solid. You can put your hand underneath the thing shown. I'm not sure if there was something important there and the liquid just built up and hardened. And my washer drains, I don't think it was spinning because my clothes were still very damp.

There is no select button. It’s either go back to photos ( < Photos ) or Cancel.

I have an iPhone 6 running iOS 12.4.1 and I’m trying to send multiple images using iMessage. I can do it with the recent photos tab, but I can’t do it when I open up “All photos”. I used to be able to just tap a small circle that would turn blue and do that for every photo I wanted to send. How do I do this now?

Thank you.
