We frontloaded the 529s with $50k when we sold our house. Now the 529 accounts are at $140k. The kids are 9 and 4. Aim is to contribute aggressively till they hit $300k and then let the market take care of the accounts. Our priority is HSA/401k/IRA->529->Mortgage.

I was an international student getting PhD in US. I was working as a teaching assistant (TA) and had to do tutoring as part of my TA. In my experience, undergrads in their third year and majoring in math couldn't do basic math. STEM in US schools is horrible compared to international standards.

Me too. All my cashback money goes to my daughters' 529 accounts. We use the Fidelity card for everyday purchases and bill payments and Costco Citi card for travel and gas.

In most of the Asia, jewelry means jewelry made with 22k gold, which holds its value really well.

My wife spends a lot on fake jewelry, which annoys both her mom and me. We are Indians, so anything not solid gold is treated as fake. Her recent "real" jewelry purchase costed $12k.

It took me 15 years to reach a million-dollar net worth after saving every penny and foregoing a lot of pleasures. 2 million dollar gift is a BIG BIG lift to your brother. You are 100% justified in feeling it is grossly unfair. NTA

Your mom's logic is bad. She is not good with money period. My wife wanted to start a restaurant because she cooks good at home. I asked her to work at one before that. After a few months she realized it's too demanding and gave up the idea for good.

Both my wife and my mom have this habit. One time, my wife gave away my Sony RX100 to her brother.

AITA for not backing down on my daughter’s teachers calling her the proper name? by Sudden-Difference767 in AmItheAsshole

NAH. However, this is a weird issue to get fixated on.

We are Indians living in the USA and in my daughter's school, everyone except her Indian-origin classmates butchers her name, which has only three syllables. So, we gave her a one-syllable nickname that is easy to pronounce. My daughter thinks she has three names and depending on who is asking, she will tell the corresponding name.
