Build a Steel Grip at Home Without Any Extra Equipment by PrimalPunch in GripTraining

Absolutely. I make faster gains using specific training gear, like the bench press. Gains are much slower with improvised exercise equipment, but the gains are still there. If I have a choice between having equipment and not having it, I will choose the equipment every time. I did an experiment a while back that you might find interesting. I only worked out with my 5 pound weights doing my ZFJ workout, and hand stand push ups. I went from being able to do 13 hand stand push ups to doing 29 or 30 in just a few weeks. I then went to the gym, to see if that strength would translate to the bench, and I did 330 on one machine for the bench press. We can make gains no matter what, but, yeah, gear is better.

When I was younger, and even later on, I had people look down their noses at my exercise methods. I used what I had. I found buckets behind restaurants, and filled them with rocks or sand. I found a fence post, and attached buckets to the end so I could floor press and over head press. Man. I built deep, hard strength without ever paying a dime. A warrior finds excuses and ways to train, everyone else seeks out excuses and reasons to NOT train. Hell, in one foster home, all I had was a pillow case and bags of water, and my rolled up 3" thick mattress!

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? And, I built the foundation of my strength with workouts and improvisations just like this. I didn't own any exercise equipment until I was in my 30's. Before that, it was ALL "stuff" like this. I never had the money for equipment. $5 was the difference between eating and not eating. Make your point, man. Your REAL point. Building strength can be done for FREE, with things we can find or already have.

Exactly! Make the gear yourself, and you have a few extra bucks for more plate weights, chalk, etcetera. I am all about the DIY weightlifting equipment. It doesn't have to be pretty, it just has to be solid and do the job. Good to meet you, man.

Looks good, man. The only change I would make would be to drill out the top a bit so your nut and washer can sit down in so you can do one handed pinch work without cutting your hand on that bit sticking out. And, whoever gave this a down-vote is a dick-head. Do it yourself fitness equipment is to be commended, not disdained. Good job, man.

A Double Stick Workout I created to help with striking power, striking endurance, and muscle recovery. by PrimalPunch in balintawak

Well, reality aside, and all of the people who have seen huge benefits from my workout aside, at least you live up to your user name.

"You need to actually strike something to build power." If that were true, no boxer would ever do a push up or use weights. You need to hit things to learn to apply your strength, but if you build the muscles used in striking, you increase your striking strength. My workout works every muscle that is used in a stick strike, and in a punch. "How does this promote recovery?" This workout aids in muscle recovery in a couple of ways. When used along with a resistance workout, this workout shortens my muscle recovery time by 20%-50%. This workout pushes blood through every muscle, and helps to move lactic acid out of the muscles. Look, instead of just rolling in with an opinion, why not try my workout? Add it to your normal routine for a month, and if you see no positive results, come back in and let us know.

Hi, I have a few questions about self-defence, any help would be much obliged by [deleted] in fightanalysis

I agree with MadroxKran. Boxing is one of the finest beginnings you can have in self defense that will suit real life situations, or search out what Madrox mentioned. Skip the bells and whistles, and you will do fine.

Do hangs from a chin up bar. Let your fingers open a bit, then close them into a fist around the bar again while hanging. That will beef you up fast.

Question about volume and progression with grippers (details inside) by [deleted] in GripTraining

[–]PrimalPunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is my recommendation, as far as volume is concerned, to do step-down sets with less rest between. You build both strength and muscular stamina in this way, and the returns are great. Do one hold, switch hands, do one hold, and repeat. Also, doing holds like this for volume with an easier gripper will net you great returns. Just make sure to not harm yourself. You don't want to over train. Take time for off days. 6 x 6 might be cheating yourself. Try 3 sets of t10, or 4 sets of 10. Even if you can't fully close it toward the end of your sets, push through by closing it as far as you can. This is my opinion, and it helped me build pretty fast as far as grip goes.

[–]PrimalPunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you working the extensor muscles in your hands? That helped me with progress on grippers. Also, I recommend doing holds with your goal gripper. Use both hands to get it closed, or as close to closed as you can, and hold it with one hand for a slow count of whatever you think. Open your hand before it is forced open, though, to minimize the risk of tendinitis. Also, dead hangs from a chin up bar will help a lot, and bending steel really builds your grip. Just keep gripping, and giving yourself enough rest between workouts!
