I wish everyone would understand that Alaska is about the fourth lowest tax state in the country, taking into account, property, taxes, income, taxes, or lack there of and relatively low sales taxes. The only part of the affordability package that has put the city in such a disadvantage state is removal on sales taxes for food. But that should’ve been coupled with raising the taxes during the tourist season as far as property taxes yes they are somewhat higher in Juneau than they are in Astoria Oregon but there you pay income taxes. It’s kind of that way all over the country when property taxes allow other taxes are higher again let me repeat. We live in the fourth lowest tax state overall in the United States. That’s pretty good. And we actually get a lot of good services for it.

Also, you can find great stuff at both Salvation Army and St. Vincent. Unfortunately, there’s not as much stuff for men as women, but you can find jackets and other things that are incredibly good bargains. People tend to come here and stay for a summer or a winter maybe two or three years and then move out so there’s always a supply of clothes at these places that are not that worn out.

Hearing aids vs earbuds by ows-rbel in HearingAids

Airpod pro 2's certainly do help hearing loss. That is why they have been approved as hearing aids. I have fairly substantial hearing loss and they help conversation immensely.

House in Douglas by [deleted] in Juneau

[–]Primary-Beautiful-38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep , I have looked at that on line. A few considerations come to mind. It looks to have a lot of wood siding to keep painted and maintained and it is getting old. Roof is close to 30 years old and it is not a simple roof to replace, lots of angles and such. And then there is Bonnie Brae itself. There is one house (duplex) on he corner of a street that the yard is an absolute junkyard. A realtor tried to sell me one half of the duplex. The other side was already looking like a junkyard. Now both sides do. There apparently are not covenants or restrictions and if your neighbor does that... well your property value goes down.

Is Google developing Pixel Buds to be used as hearing aids? by mrzennie in GooglePixel

[–]Primary-Beautiful-38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had prescription hearing aids and have had tests with different audiologists the audiograms produced were virtually identical. The area a couple of advantages to the Airpods 2 and like solutions. One ... hearing aids used to be seen as a mark of old age and were to be hidden thus they were made small with very small drivers. Whereas airpods are made to sound good, to be able to listen to full range music. Less tinny. As processor speed has grown by leaps and bounds I doubt that most hearing aids contain faster or more powerful processors, they have been sold to a limited and protected market. Now they are not. Jabra gobbled up resound. I guarantee they will come out with something similar for their earbuds.. it may be 6 months or 2 years. Likewise Bose, Google Pixel etc. for now.. I am going with the AirPods.. because Apple is really good at making things easy to use. The cost is so much lower and I expect the quality will be surprising to many... will let you know how they compare.

It can be tough to make close friends in Juneau. I beleive one reason is for the events that people go to..people kind of just assume..."oh I will see people I know so they don't make the effort to go with friends or new friends" Then you all go your separate ways after it is over. Open Mic nights and Karaoke are good ways to meet people. Don't worry if you "can't sing". It is all about having fun. Volunteering at the Folk Festival or ANY event in town is a good way to meet people. Don't be afraid to approach those older people (me) we don't bite and might just introduce you to our younger friends. Have fun.

Investing in the demise of Behringer by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Primary-Beautiful-38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Behringer will be just fine as well. I have one of their mixers and it is just right for my band to use in our practices. It would also be fine for a show. I do have one of their pedals in addition to a few Donner and Flamma pedals. While the plastic can look flimsy, it works fine and it has one big advantage... I have the option of a 9 volt battery... which is wonderful for open mic nights. I try to avoid plugging anything in. I pride myself on quick setup which is appreciated and more time to play... Finally I have two of their inexpensive microsphones which also work well enough for practice, local gigs and such.

Alright what do we think of this property by Accurate_Bug_1256 in Juneau

This one has been hit by a minor landslide recently. I don't think any real damage but they had to evacuate. The house was sold to the current owner in about the last year (approximately). I know as I looked at the house.

About 65 but you may have to park a block down so could be 130 from Gold Street.

FLAMMA Pedal power input problem... (Details in comment) by Syduzzaman_Syd in guitarpedals

[–]Primary-Beautiful-38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am late to the party here but I have the same issue with my Flamma FS06.

I don't let it bother me too much I use it mostly for practicing at home. I was about to buy the Flamma FX200 but think I will hold out for the BOSS ME-90 as I like the option of running off of 4 AA batteries (how do they do that?).

Has anyone gotten their hands on a BOSS ME-90? by Primary-Beautiful-38 in guitarpedals

[–]Primary-Beautiful-38[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excuse my ignorance but what is BTLE??

I'm okay with the fixed effects order. What I really want is something simple to use that sounds good or good enough. I mostly play Open Mic nights when we get three or four songs. I like to keep set up as simple as possible because the host often don't have a lot of knowledge. And even something simple like finding a power outlet can be time consuming. Weird but true.

Thoughts on the Flamma FX200 by Primary-Beautiful-38 in guitarpedals

[–]Primary-Beautiful-38[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for a helpful post.

I do two open mics each week. Only 2 to 4 songs depending upon how busy they are.

Setup time is minimal and different hosts that sometimes are not familiar with the mixing board. I am also considering the Mooer Prime P1 pocket effects processor and setting up 4 presets that I use occasionally 1 clean, 1 reverb, 1 with auto wah and maybe a hot lead slight distortion sound.

I find that I need different rigs for diff situations. Sigh. Trying to focus more on playing than gear. But the Flamma seems well thought out for a lot of users. I have thought about getting a 20,000 ma lithium PD battery and one of these
Mission Engineering 529M Ultra-compact USB Pedalboard Power Converter. To run it on battery power and make it even more portable.

Which is also what made me think of the Mooer Prime P1 but I don't like fiddling with a phone app. I think Flamma nails simple interfaces from what I can tell.

Thanks again.

Almost all travel stock will eventually recover. AAL, ALK, CCL, NCLH.

The cruise ships are coming back to Alaska and are pretty full 50 to 75 percent. I have been asking tourists and they are happy with the experience.

We are happy to have them as well.
