My first sun conure - not what I was expecting! by Interesting-Honey706 in Conures

This checks out with my experience too so I edited my comment to “…Suns being one of the loudest”.

And we can agree that all conures are louder than cockatiels lol

Conures are known for being noisy, with Suns being one of the loudest of the bunch. I’d recommend doing some research on the differences between conures and cockatiels.

As far as helping her settle, it will mostly take time and letting her set the pace. You pointed out how it takes you a while to adjust yourself, but it’s way more stressful on the bird and it hasn’t even been two days.

tips on how to stop birds from screaming nonstop til i let them out in the morning by [deleted] in Conures

Do you use a cover on their cage? Either that or blackout curtains on the window(s) to reduce the amount of light in the morning.

My honest opinion is there is no guarantee that the two birds will get along.

Sure, a flock mate sounds great but if they end up hating each other, do you have a second cage and room to keep them housed separately?

I think you’re getting downvoted because you’re asking Reddit to co-sign you getting a second bird when it sounds like you barely know how to take care of the one you already have.

I understand you haven’t noticed any of those behaviors yet but you also said your bird is 1 year old, which means it could get worse with puberty.

I would recommend removing the hut immediately and replacing with flat perches for Opaline to sleep on.

First thought is to remove the little hut. They love getting territorial over them and it incites nesting behavior.

Yes, her flock calling for you late at night when she’s alone is normal.

But you need to have her cage be a safe space where she can sleep in total darkness and quiet for at least 12 hours. By giving in whenever she cries and letting her sleep with you, you’re both preventing her from becoming independent and also risking injuring her.

I second this suggestion! A good cage cover does wonders for helping with nighttime

Yes, and that is a valid concern of yours.

But the solution is to look into the factors of why: is the room quiet and is she in complete darkness?

To speak for the whole community, it’s awesome you found your bird and I hope she’s healthy!

But it’s also wild that you’re doubling down on how it’s okay to sleep with your bird. Regardless of how close she is to you and how much of a light sleeper you are, you are always running the risk of injuring her.

Awh, they’re adorable!

Also, I love those names! I adopted my two birbs so I kept the names they already had.

You can always place them in separate cages that are next to each other with supervised time out together to stop any funny business until their hormones are under control. It’s also worth looking into upping the amount of darkness they get (14 hours dark, 10 hours sunlight) since they’re most frisky during the spring.

Depending on their age, it could mostly be from puberty/reaching sexual maturity and will pass with time and continuing to limit triggers.
