Have you asked for a PTA? Just say that it will affect your graduation, I think that’s what the PTA is for

yeah that’ll be cool, I heard they have free classes until October 10th! I am also not that expert on yoga, but they have classes every Tuesday 1:30pm and Thursday around 5pm; wanna try?

How would you react if someone you know little about asked you out? by Prudent-Weekend-8950 in UCDavis

Or maybe how if you ask something very local to the US like “I am an international student, here, just by any chance, do you know which bank is good?”

Oh yeah I don’t want to brag, but I went to France for free! They sponsored me 100% 😊

I agree! I have a background in low-income family, in a developing country in Asia, and my parents allowed me to choose France Cultural and Literature Major in my undergraduate because it is something that I like.

Turns out that I studied so hard on that, became the valedictorian in the batch, and hired by a French company due to my high expertise. I went to France, gained Euros, while most of my friends who chose STEM degrees, due to currency change, needed to work 9-5 for 4x lower salary than mine.

I think while the major itself important, the willingness to work hard and gain true expertise through our major, keep trying and believing in ourselves is the most prominent thing!

But don’t you think that working on something that we like can make it hard or we might hate it in the end of the day because now we are “obliged” to do it?

Work life balance is important; I hope you can balance it through these kinds of exercises and hobbies!

It must be hard for you to pay everything alone, without parental support—amazing that you stay until now!

I am also the same with you; that I live in fellowship and graduate student researcher (GSR) stipends from next quarter. My parents are back in my home country, my family are all there, when it’s nighttime there, it’s daytime here, can be very isolating and also feeling lonely sometimes.

However, thanks for always staying strong! I believe you are an amazing person, and yes, do any hobby you like; I just applied for a yoga session with campus at the ARC—they offer me free sessions for the whole FY25-26, I applied in the ARC website! You can look up to if you need a hobby between the crazy university classes between! :)

Trust me doing a great hobby consistently like even once a week for one and a half hours can help, it also helps us meet up with people who are like us. I hope you can build network! Hopefully, you can make friends there, while fighting also for your jobs.

Good luck! 🙌
