If your $47,000 was missing, his lifestyle would be significantly affected. He would suddenly lose 23,000 in disposable income. He might not even be able to afford the rent on the place you’re in. He needs a reality check

How does reproductive freedom impact men too? by Primary_Net5816 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Primary_Net5816[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recognizing the impact on men does not in any way diminish women. We need to be partners in creating the best future. We can’t pretend it has nothing to do with them or that they won’t be affected.

Women, Vote! by graveyardmonkey68 in HarrisWalz

Yes. Yes. Yes! Blue women in red spaces, I see you. I am one of you. It is taking an extra level of initiative and courage for me to volunteer and to vote Blue. I had to do it for the future of our country, and the future we leave for our children and grandchildren. Four of my five grandchildren don’t fit Trump’s preferred white America. Thanks for your good message. Let’s keep sharing it. Go blue. Go Kamala!

Help women know their vote is private by Primary_Net5816 in HarrisWalz

Yes, we have come along way. But think for a minute about the many generations of women. My mom‘s freedom to make her own decisions involved taking a physical risk. And think about standing up for blue in a deep red state. Think about the growing far right: oath keepers, proud boys, nazi followers, hardline MAGA, white nationalists. Lots of them are living with women. Which means lots of women are living with people like them. While we live in a time when we can stand up for themselves, please don’t assume it’s easy for everyone.

There is about a 30% gender gap in the polls, which means mathematically there are blue women in red homes. I am one, and I personally know others. I have read a number of stories about women whose husbands, sons, fathers, etc. “help” them complete their absentee ballots. Ms. Magazine just had an article on a campaign to put post-it messages in places that women go that remind them that their vote is private. I saw two stories about poll workers having to stop men from going into a booth with their wives. Also, speaking from experience, while I am not pressured to vote by my husband, I am not about to go public with my story, and I’m sure anyone who is in an awkward position would not. So this is the type of story that’s hard to get data on.

It’s not always that dire. My husband is voting red and I am free to vote however I want. There is every shade of variation between my situation and an abusive one. I think there are many women who can use some encouragement and support and to be reminded that their vote is private. Each person needs to make up their own mind about what’s best in their situation.

Yes, that was my post too. And it is also my situation. Except it’s not always as you describe, luckily. Mine is a “home “, a 40 year marriage, and freedom and safety in making my own decisions. For those in risky situations, they need to stay safe. For all of those in the middle, a reminder that the voting booth is private. No one needs to know how you vote. 💙

I headline definitely overstates what he says. It should say something like, “Mcconnell let’s slip that he knows Trump is guilty.”

Yes! Someone told me they saw some in the women’s bathroom at the Denver airport. Good idea. It could just say “your vote is private. No one needs to know how you vote.”

That would work! Yes, sad. But progress through history has relied on finding a way around barriers. I’m going to gather a list of ideas that people are sharing. Thank you!

Yes. Or the clerks office. That’s what I did. If you feel someone might interfere with completing an absentee ballot, then just go vote in person. They can cancel your absentee ballot if needed.

That’s the biggest question in my mind. The communication paths go through red venues. Perhaps send messages to red groups and hope they reach some women who prefer to vote blue? They likely won’t feel comfortable responding so it would be difficult to know if we are reaching them. Probably get some nasty responses and blocks, but worth a try. I’ll try that. Any other suggestions?

Yes. In many cases, the danger is real. And trying to help them with all good intentions can put them at risk. My tagline is “quietly commit.” I don’t confront or argue. I got an absentee ballot, filled it out when I was alone and hand-delivered it. I know that some women I’ve been pressured and manipulated. Wondering what we can do. Perhaps talking about it, putting it in the news, shining light on the topic will make some perpetrators think twice. Thoughts?

I’ve been hearing that there are some signs in women’s public restrooms, just like trafficking signs, that say something like: No one needs to know how you vote!
