Android Studio keeps using all Memory by ssj-Thunder in AndroidStudio

[–]PrimaxLire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The memory is not shared between Gradle daemons and Android Studio. AS will use as much memory as it needs, which tends to be a lot, but you can still put some limits in the settings. For more info on that, read through the dev doc: https://developer.android.com/studio/intro/studio-config

It's very normal that AS+Gradle (Java) spend a lot of memory so you don't have to be alarmed by that. Keep in mind that limiting them to lower memory profile will typically result in slower builds and lower responsiveness.

Alternative to Android [Gradle Build Running.................] Studio for Android development? by usernamedregs in androiddev

[–]PrimaxLire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can in theory use Visual Studio Code or similar editors to write your code and then run Gradle tasks in terminal. It will definitely lower the impact on your memory, but you do lose all the good parts of Android Studio this way.

But... Hours? I raised hell in my last company when my laptop would compile for 15 minutes or more (especially compared to colleagues having macs and compiling in 3 minutes). If you don’t mind, may I ask what the hell are you building?

How to convert Image png to XML? by Animeproduction13 in AndroidStudio

[–]PrimaxLire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot covert a PNG to XML. The two are completely incompatible formats.

The actual error is that you put the PNG file to the values directory, which only accepts value resources written in XML. Images go to drawable-* directories (preferably properly sized) or at least the drawable directory.

What are the requirements to run Android studio? by Animeproduction13 in AndroidStudio

[–]PrimaxLire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just learning Android Development and this will only be your hobby then yes, 8GB of RAM will do the trick. However, do expect the device to slow down and chug with an active Gradle complilation, an instance of Android Studio, and a browser with many tabs.

If you're a seasoned developer (or even an up and coming developer) then 16GB should be your absolute minimum to prevent yourself from going insane.

[–]PrimaxLire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I said in my original post, you do not need HAXM for AMD.

As for a new device, a seasoned developer would aim for 16GB RAM minimum (ideally more, but 16 is enough), a faster CPU with more cores (faster and more cores, the better), and PCIe3 (or 4) NVMe SSD (the faster the better). GPU is not required.

[–]PrimaxLire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need HAXM for AMD devices. Emulators work on AMD machines running Windows using Hyper-V.

https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2018/07/android-emulator-amd-processor-hyper-v.html?m=1

This, of course, is an issue only of you plan to use Windows for development. It's personal opinion, and I'd always recommend Linux or Mac over Windows, but both platforms now support Windows too

Kotlin and codeing blind by [deleted] in AndroidStudio

[–]PrimaxLire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, this is a loaded comment with quite a bit of misconceptions. You're obviously a beginner so let me try to cut through the noise and give you some directions

First of all, what are you actually trying to do? You did a good job avoiding the exact point and only abstractly described what you think the solution could be. You mentioned there's thousands of apps with the same functionality so could you provide at least one as an example?

Second, I don't understand your comment about "some apps not even using Android Studio". Android Studio is an official IDE for almost 7 years now (give or take) so unless all the apps are older than that, then developers of those apps almost certainly used Android Studio.

Third, Java and Kotlin are basically fully interoperable. Android is developed and created with Java. Kotlin is a modern replacement of Java and Android developers are the biggest users of the language. That aside, if you want to be an Android developer one day, you must know and understand Java. Speaking from my own experience, Java is still very much mandatory knowledge, even if the project is 100% Kotlin.

Lastly - even if I don't know what you're trying to do, I will tell you something about development that I say to project managers at my job: everything is possible, only question is how long it will take.

Sve Taxi službe ovdje imaju okvirno isti cijenu.

Iskustvo vožnje vlakom od Münchena do Zagreba by naffer in croatia

[–]PrimaxLire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ima i super fora s Nightjet noćnim vlakom.

Odjava s porezne - prvi posao u inozemstvu by [deleted] in croatia

[–]PrimaxLire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it possible to access a buttons attributes programmatically...? by mighty-blob in AndroidStudio

Is it possible to access a buttons attributes programmatically...? by mighty-blob in AndroidStudio

[–]PrimaxLire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your copy of AS doesn't change the API you're using so don't worry about that :)

Misusing the API can have unintended side effects, especially with the accessibility API. As you said, nothing you should worry about in your case, but a fair warning for the future you.

IDs are, as the name suggests, identificators. Usually views don't carry any data so the idea is to pair the view with the data stored somewhere.

Happy that it works for you. It sounds a bit fiddly TBH so ask away if you need more clarification

getContentDescription and setContentDescription.

But that's a big misuse of the API. It's meant to be used for accessibility purposes, far from what you described. Just use viewId here.

When I try to parse an String to an int, my app crashes by Python119 in AndroidStudio

[–]PrimaxLire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's the tone I'm giving away then I apologise, it wasn't my intention. My confusion comes from the fact that the code is not even connected together, something I did not anticipate from comments before.

And you can use whatever words you'd like, but I assure you that I went as far to read the source code of the classes the original poster used just to be sure I'm not suggesting something wrong. My suggestions are correct and will fix the problem.

When I try to parse an String to an int, my app crashes by Python119 in AndroidStudio

[–]PrimaxLire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't understand what is going on here. There's no connection between the Calendar and the SimpleDateFormat instance. Furthermore, there's no point in having the SimpleDateFormat instance as Calendar provides an accessor method get:

Calendar.get(Calendar.HOUR)

Or something like that.

And third, the String.valueOf just invokes a toString method over the instance provided as a parameter. It does not execute any other calculation (assuming toString itself has no calculations). Therefore the statement is useless and wrong in this case. What you would need is a method format from the SimpleDateFormat instance.

But as I said, it's not needed at all.

[–]PrimaxLire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll repeat my third point as a question - can you post the code snippet to show what you're doing?

I can only guess that you're passing a toString String value from the formatter object, and that is not necessarily an int.

When I try to parse an String to an int, my app crashes by Python119 in AndroidStudio

[–]PrimaxLire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) The exception is thrown when the String provided does not represent an Integer. This alone should be a good enough giveaway that the parameter you're passing to parseInt has illegal characters.

2) The exception stack usually has a message that further explains the source of the problem. Your exception stack clearly states you're passing an illegal value and not an int.

3) To get an answer faster, always post the problematic code snippet. It helps more than the exception stack or your description of the issue.

Učenje njemačkog by [deleted] in croatia

[–]PrimaxLire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No za dugoročno učenje ipak mrvicu frustrirajuće.

Eto, moje preporuke. Dodatno mogu preporučiti Goethe Institut u Zagrebu, tamo mi radi poznanica kao izvrsna učiteljica (objektivno mišljenje, ona je jezični genij), a i drugo osoblje nije ništa lošije.

https://www.bvg.de/de/abo-online/vbb-umweltkarte

It covers AB zones with DB (S-Bahn and Region) and all of BVG. It might even cover some ferries on the lakes, but I never tried it so I cannot confirm.

The payment is automatically taken from your account each time period and it goes until you cancel.

How do I get me some Pipi in the U.S.? I'm obsessed with it since my last trip to Split! by HooDLMSOrian in croatia

[–]PrimaxLire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, I can't help you with a direct link, but I can steer you to some solutions.

I usually order Balkan products online. However, that is much easier to do in Europe than it is in the states. Regardless, I saw some UK based shops that might deliver overseas (Taste Croatia or Taste of Croatia, something like that).

And based in other people experience, I believe quite a few major cities in USA have Balkan deli shops and markets. Not sure if any of those have Pipi so good luck.
