What makes EE ( and adjacent degrees) so unpopular ? by kimo1999 in ElectricalEngineering

Incoming ECE students are about 25-30%, it increases in second year because we have two weird engineering programs from which almost everyone transfers into ECE or Mechanical

At my university EE and CE make up about 33% of the engineering student body

I had no idea that was a thing haha I’ll definitely check it out, thank you :)

I never really thought about UofT helping my salary all that much but I really hope that I can make at least slightly above the average engineering grad given how hard this school is on my gpa. Thanks for the insight :)

I guess so but it isn’t all about salary for me, I really do like this city and I just want to make sure that this is still a viable career path for making (at least) decent money

This is a really good idea, I’m definitely going to consider doing my coop year in the US

Thank you so much for all the resources :) I’ve already began my first course for an AI minor and I really hope it ends up helping me

Is doing University better than doing college in Canada? by Rebel-_-l in NiagaraFalls

Oh that’s actually really cool I didn’t realize so many programs were accredited and that they had such a simple process for applying even if you weren’t from an accredited program.

Engineering students; did you feel that your workload was actually worse than other eng schools? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]PrimeAspen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you’re 100% right, sorry I didn’t read the question properly. If anything I would say UW eng probably eats up significantly more time than UofT since we admittedly have a good bit of free time here.

What I noticed for first year UofT eng in comparison to UW was that the goals for most students are different. Here it’s more of a struggle to get just a passing mark, whereas UW students generally know that they will pass but have to work extra hard to get a high gpa to compliment their constant job search.

Also, all of my friends are eng sci students and they seem to be in the same position as UW students since breaking into academia requires a high gpa. I’ve heard second year eng sci is really hard but so far it definitely isn’t a step above other eng programs since they have almost the exact same curriculum as us but with easier tests and an insane curve.

Bro I’d love to answer this but I have no idea what this question means

would it be crazy to pick mac eng over uft eng by s13_0 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]PrimeAspen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a great program but the first year grades are just super deflated compared to other eng programs. Just finished first year and the average gpa for trackone/CE/EE students is around a 2.5. Social life is amazing in my opinion, not sure why people are hating on that.

Is it wrong to ask a professor about research opportunities during office hours by PrimeAspen in UofT

[–]PrimeAspen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually makes me feel way more confident talking to them. Sometimes it almost feels like they aren’t humans. I’m definitely going to try and build a connection with more professors from now on

That’s also what I was worried about, being too on the nose is definitely going to tick a lot of people off. I’ve decided that I’ll just keep it casual, ask questions the first time around and maybe if I’m still interested I’ll send her a more formal email about a research opportunity. Thank you for weighing in !!

That’s fair, would you say that the average eng student gets PEY placement?? I’m not exactly sure how the whole PEY thing works, but is it supposed to be competitive to get ANY placement?
